Montour County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of 2000, the population is 18,236. Its county seat is Danville6. The name is from Catherine Montour, a prominent Indian woman.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 343 km² (132 mi²). 339 km² (131 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it (1.17%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 18,236 people, 7,085 households, and 4,817 families residing in the county. The population density was 54/km² (140/mi²). There were 7,627 housing units at an average density of 23/km² (58/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 96.67% White, 1.01% Black or African American, 0.07% Native American, 1.28% Asian, 0.38% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. 0.92% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 7,085 households out of which 30.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.30% were married couples living together, 8.90% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.00% were non-families. 28.00% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.00% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the county, the population was spread out with 24.40% under the age of 18, 6.40% from 18 to 24, 28.20% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 17.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 90.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.00 males.
