Monster Munch

Monster Munch is a corn snack available in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland which is produced by Walkers. The most popular flavour is currently Pickled Onion, although other varieties include a Roast Beef flavour and a spicy variant called "Flamin' Hot". The individual crisps come in the shape of a monster's paw, with four fingers and a hole in the hand. Although the snack is largely aimed at children, as evident by the individual crisps being in the form of a monster's paw and the packet hosting a smiling orange monster, the snack is enjoyed widely by people of all ages. In fact, Walkers Pickled Onion Monster Munch is the company's 9th best-selling snack. In recent years Monster Munch has become victim of corporate downsizing, leading to the shrinking of the size of the individual shapes and packaging.
Originally Monster Munch was made by Smiths and was first available in Roast Beef, Bacon and Pickled Onion flavours, each pack contained a different monster on the front of the packet. These monsters have been redesigned around four times since the product first appeared.
The three flavour line-up has also changed many times since the eighties with combinations of flavours ranging from the aforementioned varieties along with 'Tomato Sauce', 'Spicy', 'Hamburger' and 'Italian Spaghetti Sauce'. Pickled Onion has remained in the selection throughout, with Roast Beef appearing in almost every combination. A controversial 'Vanilla' flavour of Monster Munch was launched in 2004 to the British public's disgust. Despite this type of Monster Munch being non-savoury, and containing no salt, the people could still not handle the thought of eating crisps which are sweet.

The baked corn snack contains a source of phenylalanine, meaning it is not suitable for phenylketonurics - people with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria, which entails an inability to metabolize phenylalanine. Packets of the snack enclose a written warning.
It is suitable for those of a vegetarian diet.
