Miss Barbados Universe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Miss Barbados Universe is the pageant for selecting a delegate to represent Barbados at the Miss Universe pageant. It is the most prestigious pageant in a country that has many beauty pageants.
It is not to be mistaken for the Miss Barbados World Pageant, which selects delegates for the Miss World Pageant. Its National Director is Stephanie Chase, winner of the inaugural talent award at the 2002 Miss World Pageant.
Miss Barbados Universe sent its first contestant to Miss Universe in 1978 and has sent 11 delegates between 1978 and 2005. They have never sent a delegate for more than 5 years in a row. After the death of the National Director Andy Niles, it was unsure as to whether they will participate in 2006. Niles was national Director from 2003 to 2005.
As of 2005 Barbados has never placed at Miss Universe or received a national award.
In 2006, Candi Nicholls, a former member of Niles' team, took over the franchise. A pageant is slated for March 2006.
