[edit] George Joestar

George is Jonathan's father. He lost his wife in a carraige accident where he met Dario Brando. After Dario's death, Dio went to live with George and Jonathan at the Joestar Estate. Eight years later, George had caught a disease uknowningly by Dio. After Jonathan had returned from Orge Street, Dio attacked Jonathan with a knife but George blocks it and gets stabbed in the back. His blood lands on Dio which causes Dio to become a vampire right after he dies.

[edit] Danny

Danny is Jonathan's dog and best friend. When Jonathan was five, his father had bought Danny who was still a puppy at the time. He was afraid of unfamiliar places and strange people. Jonathan and Danny didn't get along for awhile which involved the scared Danny biting Jonathan and Jonathan attacking Danny by throwing stones, but one day in a river, Jonathan was drowing and was saved by Danny, that rescue made Jonathan and Danny the best of friends. When Dio had arrived, Danny was kneed in the jaw by Dio and then later was put into a box that was supposed to go into the incinerator. Danny burned to death and was buried in the backyard of the Joestar Estate. That night, Jonathan laid awake, remembers Danny's death, and cried.

[edit] Dario Brando

Dario is Dio's abusive and alcoholic father. On one fateful day, Dario notices a carriage accident and tries to steal from the corpses inside. There he met George Joestar, who thought that Dario came there to save him instead of rob him. George then made a debt to Dario for saving his life. He beat Dio and worked his wife to death, as Dio recounts, "My father was a bastard, he worked my mother to death!". At one point he even made Dio sell his deceased wife's dress. Dio then went to Orge Street and bought oriental poison from a Chinese man named Wangchan. On his death bed, he then had Dio go to the Joestar Estate to repay the debt. After he died, Dio then spit on his grave before leaving.

[edit] Erina Pendleton/Joestar

Erina first appears as a small girl, when Jonathan rescues her from bullies. When she appears again, she and Jonathan begin going out, and fall in love with each other. However, after Dio seizes her, kisses her, and then brutally beats her, she is humiliated and stays away from Jonathan for a long time. She does not appear again until after Dio's first near-defeat, when she nurses Jonathan back to health. After Jonathan finally defeats Dio using the hamon. They subsequently renew their relationship and get married. They take a ship to go on their honeymoon to America, but the voyage is cut short by the appearance of Dio. The ship goes down, and Jonathan stays behind, trying to kill Dio. Erina takes an orphaned infant and escapes. Years later, she and her grandson Joseph are the last of the Joestar clan, and they travel to New York on the invitation of Speedwagon, which sets off the events of part 2.

[edit] Robert Edward O Speedwagon

[edit] William Antonio Zeppeli

[edit] Tonpeti

Tonpeti (named after Tom Petty) is a Hamon/Ripple Master who taught William Antonio Zeppeli and many others. He trained, the then 25 year-old, Zeppeli in the ripple ways and eventually told him that Zeppeli would face a gruesome death. Nevertheless, Zeppeli went on with his training. The only other known ripple students of Tonpeti were Dire & Straights who both accompanied him when they went to the town where Dio was. However, they didn't arrive to where Jonathan and Speedwagon were until Zeppeli had died. During the final battle of Jonathan and Dio, Dire had been killed but Tonpeti and Straights still helped kill Dio's remaining zombies. After the battle Tonpeti was last seen at the dock, (with Straights, Speedwagon, & others) to say farewell to Jonathan & Erina while they went on their honeymoon. The whereabouts of Tonpeti afterwords are unknown but it can be assumed the he died within the 50 year gap between Parts 1&2 and Straights became his successor.

[edit] Straizzo

Straizzo is, along with Dire, one of Tom Petty's followers. He aids Jonathan in the fight against Dio and his minions. However, when Santana is discovered in the 1930's during part 2, he betrays Speedwagon and dons one of the newly discovered Stone Masks. He explains that he always envied Dio's strength and beauty and now desires to stop his aging process. He dies battling Joseph in New York City. He, along with Dire, are named for the band Dire Straits.

[edit] Dire

Dire is a ripple/hamon user and a student of Ripple Master Tonpeti. Not much is known of Dire's past except that he was a good friend of William Antonio Zeppeli. He first encountered Jonathan and had a short match against him and then properly introduced himself. Before Dio and Jonathan had their last fight, Dire had fought Dio to avenge Zeppeli. However even Dire's best attack, the Thunder Split Attack, didn't stand a chance against Dio's ice attack which completely turned his body into ice and destroyed his body. Dire, now only a head was able to use his last ounce of ripple energy to shoot a rose into Dio's eye and with that, Dire's head was then turned to ice as well and was destroyed. He, along with Straizzo, are named for the band Dire Straits.

[edit] Poco

Poco is a young boy who lives in the village of Windknights. He falls in with the heroes after unsuccessfully trying to steal from them. His chief contribution is crawling through a narrow hole into the room where Tarkus and Jonathan are having their "chain match" so that the door can be opened and Zeppeli can help Jonathan. Dio later captures his sister and Jonathan rescues her from Doobie. He is named after the 70's rock group Poco, formed from ex-members of Buffalo Springfield.

[edit] Peggy

Peggy is Poco's sister. She was captured by Dio and taken to his castle.

[edit] Villains

[edit] Wangchan

Wangchan is a mysterious apothecary who provides Dio with the poison he needs to kill George Joestar. Later, he gets brought back to the Joestar estate and narrowly escapes the flames. As Wangchan searches for the stone mask in the rubble, Dio emerges and turns him into his zombie servant. In that regard, he serves loyally and for a considerable time, and after Dio's penultimate defeat he takes care of his master and gets him aboard the ship carrying Jonathan and Erina, where he meets his end. Wangchan is named after 80's pop duo Wang Chung.

[edit] Bruford and Tarkus

Bruford, the "Black Knight", is, along with his companion Tarkus, resurrected as a zombie by Dio to fight Jonathan, Zeppeli, and Speedwagon. He was, centuries before, a follower of Mary Stuart, and was beheaded for attempting to rise against and kill Queen Elizabeth I. He is able, as a zombie, to use his hair to attack or entangle foes using his "Danse Macabre Hair" attack. He is, despite being haunted by revenge, a noble soul, and finally Jonathan is able to awaken this nobility. When his soul returns to him, he disintegrates peacefully. Bruford gets his name from Bill Bruford, member of Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe - who were integral members of the 70's band Yes. Tarkus is named for the album Tarkus by 70's progressive rock group Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

[edit] Doobie

Doobie is a zombie that serves Dio. His head is infested with snakes. Dio leaves Poco's sister to his tender mercies, but Jonathan takes care of him before he has a chance to do any real harm. Doobie is named for the Doobie Brothers.

[edit] Paige, Jones, Plant, and Bonham

Plant, Page, Bonham, and Jones are the four zombies Dio conjures in an effort to defeat Straizzo. They are named after Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones, from the band Led Zeppelin.

[edit] Part 2: Battle Tendency

[edit] Allies

[edit] Smokey Brown

Smoky is a young boy living in New York. Joseph saves him from brutal racist policemen, and he sticks around long enough to watch the battle against Straizzo. He also shows up at the end of part 2 with Stroheim's cavalry. Smoky is possibly named after Smoky Robinson. He is initially shown with a pigtail in Volume 5, which mysteriously dissapears for the rest of the series.

[edit] Rudolph Von Stroheim

Stroheim is the commander of the Nazi forces who discover Santana in Mexico. He is appropriately militaristic and menacing, but is also responsible for not only saving Speedwagon's life, but for trying to help Joseph defeat Santana by blowing himself (and the enemy) up. He returns later as a cyborg to assist in the fight against Cars. He is the one who made Joseph Joestar's prostetic hand. Rudolph von Stroheim is probably named after Erich von Stroheim, famous as a screenwriter and director, primarily in the 1920's.

[edit] Caesar Antonio Zeppeli

[edit] Lisa Lisa

[edit] Loggins and Messina

Loggins and Messina are Ripple Masters as well as Lisa Lisa's servents. They trained Joseph and Caesar in Ripple training for about 20 days where they had to learn things such as how to breathe in for 10 minutes straight or how to breathe in 10 times in one second. JoJo and Caesar's final test had them in a Ripple match against their teachers. JoJo would fight Loggins & Caesar would fight Messina. After a while Messina forfetted his match against Caesar atonished that in 3 weeks Caesar had gained more ripple power than he had in 10 years. However, JoJo wasn't able to fight Loggins because ACDC had killed him before JoJo had got to the place they were going to fight at. So instead, JoJo fought ACDC and killed him. Messina went with Lisa Lisa, Caesar, and JoJo Switzerland to find the Red Stone of Asia. He didn't do much in the fights knocked out by Wham. After the final battle in which JoJo killed Wham and sent Cars into space, He attended JoJo's "funeral" and, just like everyone else, was shocked to see that JoJo was alive. His wereabouts afterwards are unknown.
