My RfA
Hi, I just want to say thanks for supporting me on my request for adminship! It passed by a 58/3/0 margin, so I am now an administrator. If you need me to help you out, or you find that I'm doing anything wrong, please don't hesitate to contact me. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 20:16, 6 January 2006 (UTC) |

Thanks
Many thanks for your support and secondary comment (which was most excellent btw) on my request for adminiship, I'm sure you'll be glad to know the final result was 92/1/0. I am now an administrator and (as always) if I do anything you have issue with, please talk about it with me. --Alf melmac 11:36, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. --Jay 21:37, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks for your support on my request for adminship.
The final outcome was (80/3/0), so I am now an administrator. I was flattered by the level of support and the comments, so I'm under real pressure not to disappoint, thus if you have any queries, suggestions or problems with any of my actions as an admin then please leave me a note --pgk(talk) 12:18, 8 January 2006 (UTC)- My pleasure. --Jay 21:37, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Thank you
Thanks for your support on my request for bureaucratship.
The final outcome was (70/5/0), so I am now a bureaucrat. I seriously didn't expect so many good comments from everybody and I appreciated the constructive criticism from those that gave it. If you have any queries, suggestions or problems with any of my actions as a bureaucrat then please leave me a note. -- Francs2000 22:09, 9 January 2006 (UTC)- Keep up the great work. --Jay 23:28, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Sceptre
Hi, I'm replying here since we seem to be talking about my general views on rfa, if you feel this is relevant to the ongoing rfa, please feel free to move this there. I'm not saying the person is a bad contributor or anything, I would feel that just over 1 month of active editing wouldn't be enough for anyone, especially someone who hasn't done extensive work on editing articles to show he's not too eager just to delete something that isn't up to snuff. Since you obviously feel that he's ready, we can just agree to disagree. - Bobet 01:27, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough. --Jay 01:39, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Jayz foto.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Jayz foto.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. J. Nguyen 02:08, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- In other words, could you provide the source/URL information. Nice discussion page template. :-) --J. Nguyen 02:08, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism
Do not be so hasty to blame me. In the Cuba political section I removed some irate notations and replaced them with a reality check, warning that this section has little bearing on practical reality. I am sure you do not view such critical evaluations of the Cuban government's lack of adherence to their own procedures as vandalism. Take care and be well. El Jigüe 1-30-06
- I see where you are coming from, and your reversion of vandalism to the Cuba article is clearly illustrated here. I do not blame you for that. However, adding, and I quote, "Casey and Alycia dont like this site because it isnt trust worthy!!!! :)" is Vandalism. Don't do it. I hope that is clear. --Jay(Reply) 01:52, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
White sprmcy
Warn first, then block if he doesn't heed the warnings. Treat like any other user who doesn't understand Wikipedia NPOV and no personal attacks. That's what I'd do anyway. -- Francs2000 03:30, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Cuba
Is there something that can be done to stop the cuban counter-revolutionary? User:205.240.227.15. He has made recent edits which I have not bothered to revert. It seems so pointless, as the guy has made thousands of edits, and will just keep trucking along--Colle 03:06, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- What to do . . . Well, first of all, if any of his contributions are vandalism and violate NPOV, he will be blocked. We can even block him per 3RR rule. The continuation of his contributions is damaging to the Cuban related articles, and we must put a stop to it. --Jay(Reply) 18:11, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Temporary ban of 216.120.8.254
Hello, I just wanted to let you guys know that 216.120.8.254 is a private school called La Jolla Country Day School. We just wanted to apologize for any vandalism that's taken place from our IP address; the students responsible have been found and confronted, and this shouldn't happen again. Thanks for the warning, and keep up the great work at wikipedia!

Image copyright problem with Image:Brampton dv0lf.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Brampton dv0lf.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. SoothingR 19:42, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. It has all been taken care of. --Jay(Reply) 19:58, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
User Page Fix
MJ, thanks for fixing the vandalism to my user page so quickly, though I have to ask, how did you catch it so quickly? Craig R. Nielsen 20:50, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it is very simple. I happened to be doing a little bit of user page patrolling, and I caught your page being edited by a non-user, so I quickly investigated, and reverted the vandalism. Nothing magical. Regards. --Jay(Reply) 02:46, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Re: Flagging Users
Jay, We already have a similiar thing set-up in the #wikipedia-en-vandalism room, where we can whitelist and greylist IPs who are persisant vandals or have recently vandalised something, although the flag users deal might work. Personally I would just stick to what's in the chatrooms but you never know. FOrgive my grammar, it's getting late over here. --Winter (talk ¦ ✉) 03:56, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
"Vandalism"
I've recently been accused of some form of vandalism, and these accusations are simply false. I'm sure it's some kind of clerical error, but I'd like to have the issue cleared up or at least better explained to me, because I've literally done nothing wrong. I've posted this on my talk page already, but felt that I should bring it to your attention as well. 66.82.9.62 21:54, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- In reverting vandalism en masse, seeing the words " Pain, is worst in the testicles of males" sometimes may cause the vandalism alarm to go off. I apologize if you feel wrongfully accused, but you have to understand that although your edits may be in good faith, users may see it differently. Small editing mistakes like not using editing summaries and so forth may also give you a poor reputation. There is a ton of pages about "wiki-etiquette" and so forth, so before making any more contribs, that may get you blocked, I'd suggest getting a user name, using the edit summaries, and following WP:NPOV and sourcing information. I hope that helps. Once again, sorry for the confusion. --Jay(Reply) 22:10, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Misunderstanding
It's not that my "edits" are being construed wrong, it's that I'm not editing anything at all. I can't imagine how someone could "pose" as me when I've not a username, but I haven't done any of the things attributed to my IP. I'm still essentially in the dark about the whole issue, but as long as I'm not being accused I don't suppose I mind.
I do have a Wikipedia account, and I have been using Wikipedia for an extensive amount of time, but some odd cookie restrictions keep me from remaining signed in, so I don't bother. I also never edit articles unless I know what I'm talking about, and I'm nonetheless familiar with the terms of service.
Sorry to continue boring you with my self-justification, I just wanted to end things on a clear note. 66.82.9.62 22:19, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- This is probably due to the fact that you unfortunately share an IP address with a vandal. Getting that username up and running again should resolve this issue. --Jay(Reply) 01:59, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Eddie Guerrero
If you were the anon IP address at the Eddie Guerrero article, please don't readd that information. Instead for a lengthy quote such as that one, just provide an external link at the bottom of the page so it's not taking up so much space on the main article. SWD316 talk to me 23:28, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- I wasn't the anon, but I guess it is a no go on the long quote. Thanks for clearing that up. --Jay(Reply) 01:59, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
RE: A Question (also known as An Answer)
"Hi there. I'll make it short. We have similar characteristics as Wikipedians, in terms of edit count and counter vandalism. As a fellow peer, would I have your support in an RfA? Thanks. --Jay(Reply) 23:08, 9 February 2006 (UTC)"
- Erm... unfortunately, I would have to say no. There are but three reasons: (1) I am strongly opposed to vote canvassing on RfAs, that is, leaving messages on user talk pages asking users to vote on your RfA. While your RfA hasn't begun yet, it is the inevitable outcome in this situation. You can put a notice on your talk page, add a link to your signature, etc., but please, do not leave messages. (2) You only 10 main-talk-space edits. Yes, I know I shouldn't be so editcountitic (adj form of editcountitis?), but admins should be able to resolve disputes. While your conflict resolution skills are shown by your user-talk-space edits, I'm not convinced. (3) Not enough AfD experience. You've only voted on eight AfD pages.
- If you promise not to canvass for votes anymore, show me examples of your conflict-resolution skills, and start to edit AfD more, then yes, I will vote for you. Speaking of which, I might just nominate you for AfD on... let me check... Fri 7 Apr 2006. Yes, I have some weird habits - don't ask. --M@thwiz2020 23:36, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- Just check. I've only asked you, as a similar contributor, for feedback, and no one else. I have not reduced myself to canvassing as you have stated. You have made an ill assumption that I will canvass for the vote, if there will be a vote. To my knowledge, I currently have no RfA in progress, and probably won't have one for a while. Even I know that RfA vote grabbing can ruin a good candidate. Sorry for the bother.
- Perhaps a quality conflict resolution skill is to avoid long disputes on Talk pages, resulting in my few edits on such Talk pages. In addition, discrediting my dispute resolutions on user pages etc. rather than on Talk pages is, as I like to call it "interioteditcountcategorism": to judge based on edit counts in categories. I apologize if I haven't written 63 paragraphs and rebuttals on the Lost: Season 2 talk page.
- Fair enough. But as you debate on AfD's, urgent matters are ignored on WP:AIV; at least half a dozen anon vandals were listed as you were contributing earlier. Nonetheless, I will be sure to increase participation and familiarize myself with the AfD process.
- I must ask you this: do cons out number pros? Through my fair deductions, the one point I can see for not having a mop just yet is AfD votes. But I am sure you can appreciate the many other valid reasons I should have a mop. Thanks for the feedback. --Jay(Reply) 01:33, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

-
- I'm sorry about my assumption, but I did check your contributions to see if you had canvassed other users, and I just assumed that your would canvass for more votes given an RfA in the near future. As for interioteditcountcategorism, I usually look at talk-space edits simply because user talk-space edits don't mean much. While you have 876 user-talk-space edits, the majority of them are warnings for vandalisms, and it's impossible to sort through 876 edits to see how many of them acutally involve a dispute and resolution, while it's much easier just to look at main talk-space edits. I appreciate your efforts on WP:AIV - in fact, I listed an urgent matter involving at least ten sockpuppets on WP:AN/SOCK a few days ago and, for three days, it remained uninvestigated. Granted, only a few users have checkuser rights and therefore can patrol the suspected socks, but similar backlogs exist on almost all administrator noticeboard pages. So, looking back, I will monitor your contributions and an RfA nomination may come in a month or two. Just out of curiosity, though, what program/IRC feed/something else do you use for RC patrol? (I use WP:CDFV.) And while you might not have "the mop" yet, you can still help clean up! --M@thwiz2020 17:23, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
- I primarily use the Recent Changes page for my vandalism patrol. --Jay(Reply) 23:17, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- As I said above (although I mistyped the link), I use CryptoDerk's Vandal Fighter, a program written in Java that monitors RC. I highly recommend it - you can set to to show only IP edits, highlight edits made by users that you or the program "blacklists", etc. --M@thwiz2020 23:21, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Critical thinking can be defined as the ability
to accurately and effectivelly gather interpret
and evaluate information. I am well pleased at your level
of critical thinking skills. It is more important though to
focus on the quality of understanding than the quality
of information. What is your view? Disposition to be open-minded, to
reserve judgment and to search for facts to support conclusions
is I believe a general disposition.roy 01:01, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Redundancy as a reason for deletion
I agree it is, although the nearest guideline I've found to support that is Wikipedia:Abundance and redundancy, which seems to address deletion of material from articles, not deletion of whole articles. Schizombie 19:34, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- If you are referring to First Family of the United States, I know, it is rather redundant. I am not saying there shouldn't be an article about the institution, rather, I am saying that the present article, as it stands, should be deleted since it is redundant with already well written, well sourced articles. Per Wikipedia:Abundance and redundancy, quite a bit of information would have to be deleted. Quite a few keep votes, I find, are for the namesake of the article, and emphasize that an article under that title should exist. However, the present article, as it stands now, would have to be scrapped. --Jay(Reply) 00:40, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

I just made a small correction to the info on Kingston and see that it has been revised already, within minutes. Is this common. And for Paul Bernardo... he is a murderer, "er" has to be added. George
- Page revision is very common, often within minutes. Check the page histories to see how frequent some pages are edited, checked, and rechecked. Thanks for fixing that typo up by the way. --Jay(Reply) 01:13, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Responding to User talk 207.30.17.114
To Whom it May Concern,
I am a teacher at a private high school in Orlando, FL. I regularly link my academic website to your website, for I find your site to be a useful supplemental resource. However, I have recently received a couple of bizarre messages stating that my computer's IP address has been involved in vandalizing your site (See Below). I can assure you I have never done anything of the sort. I am wondering if this is because I have linked your site to my site or if our entire school shares the same network. The latter seems to be a possibility since "Mike Yebba" is a Junior at our High School. If possible could you provide us with a way in which we can gaurd against these incidents? Feel free to email me at geelanm@bishopmoore.org
Sincerely,
Michael Geelan

Salvation Air Force
Hi. I notice you expressed an opinion on the deletion debate, saying that the band was not notable. I had a look at the band, and they seem to satisfy the WP:MUSIC criteria, and I would really appreciate any explanation of why you considered them to be non-notable. I'm not trying to dispute any AFD results, but just trying to work out what it is that makes people think they are not notable. Any comments welcome. DJ Clayworth 16:57, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- Detailed references, supporting information about touring, would most likely change my vote. If you can come up with a reference, and properly post it in the reference section, then I may reconsider changing my vote. Hi just wanna know why u edited my Edit on Kraken.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken I just added this : Kraken is also the german word for Octopus (plural = Kraken). I think thats intresting because its a Article about Octupus,Sea Monsters , Fiction and such things. And thereby i think it fits in perfectly because germany is also a country of northern mythologie. Here a link that proves that i dont lie or something. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken

I'm sorry, but you could tell me what I apparently vandalized by adding nonsese? I edited a Counter Strike article with updated slang that is now commonly used. I don't consider that nonsense, as it was in the appropriate section and was based on fact. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Polaris019 (talk • contribs) .

Vandalism?
It can't be Vandalism if it is true and correcting your errors. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.116.113.10 (talk • contribs) .
- The event in question being your contribution to Anode. I am not disputing any facts, however, this edit, nonetheless, is considered vandalism. I would highly suggest using the associated talk page for making such comments. Thank you. --Jay(Reply) 21:02, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

"I agree, there is no such thing as hobo lingo. Your comment gave me a good laugh. Nonetheless, feel free to use the WP:Sandbox for any other tests and talk pages for any additional comments, instead of the main article. Thanks :)"
Are you referring to the all-caps "WHAT IN GODS NAME IS HOBO LINGO" with like a billion question marks after it? If so, that wasn't me, I was the one who erased it because I thought it was really stupid. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.123.73.177 (talk • contribs) .

puerto rican
Master Jay
Please consider this, what i have written is based on fact regarding puerto ricans and is a factual piece about our ancestral heritage. I dont not understand why you have reverted to a previous piece that does not explain how modern Boriquas came to be. This sentance, Some of the Spanish and some slaves inter-married with the Taíno, does not do justice to the contribution of naitive american and african genes in our modern society and if you look at the pieces towards the top of the page (that has been taken from information from a scientific study)you will see that 62% have female Taino ancestary, 30% have female african ancestary and only 8% have female euopean ancestary, this tells me that very few european females travelled to the island and therefore didnt contribute a great deal to our genes. Because of your posistion at wikipedia i will respect any decision you make regarding the changes, however i believe that this site is about increasing knowledge for all and respecting the truth so please consider this before changing peoples contributions to this great site.
- Other than a few typos I managed to clean up, your edit is in good standing. However, might I suggest referencing the added information, to comply with WP:V. Thanks. --Jay(Reply) 20:44, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

RfA
Hi there. I tend to keep tabs on RfA, as I'm interested in becoming an administrator. One thing i have noticed about it is that a large proportion of the nominations are made by you. I would be interested in knowing how close I am to having the experience and goodwill in the community to be nominated/pass an RfA, as you seem to be active in that area. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Werdna648T/C\@ 05:50, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, first of all, thanks for showing initiative in the project. You may see quite a few RfA thanks and so forth, but those are traditional user thanks. Not to mention, I've only made 3 RfA noms, out of thousands. Nonetheless, from what I've seen so far, I'd suggest waiting a few more months before running for an RfA. You've probably seen oppose votes for Naconkantari, who has made 18000 contributions, the last time I checked. I'm not saying you need as many contributions as that, however, a higher edit count would suit you well. Keep up the anti-vandalism work, and perhaps write a few articles or join a project. There is no rush for a mop, and it would be far better being prepared well than to do poorly on a rushed RfA. I hope that helps. --Jay(Reply) 13:45, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi
Hi there. I am new to Wikipedia. I recently joined after a friend of mine showed to me how easy it is to contribute.
However I was soon disturbed to find out there is a problemitic user (Aucaman) who is quite franky racist to 'Iranians'.
Is it possible to stop him from contributing to Iranian articles?
Thanks for helping new users! --MysticRum 17:22, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the short answer: No, there is no way to stop him from contributing to Iranian articles, unless it is vandalism. However, if you have discovered information which needs clarification or improvement in any article, by all means edit it. Any issues regarding his contributions can be addressed on his talk page. Refer to WP:NPOV for additional info. I know it isn't much to go on, but it should answer your question. --Jay(Reply) 00:31, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Change of user name
I want to change my user name. In case it is not possible, I want to delete my account entirely and sign up again using different user name.
I am also being curious as to why you consider my addition to 'Reddy' was nonsense. When I read the stub,I found some names like 'Raja Bahaddur Venkatram Reddy',and 'Suravaram Pratap Reddy' for which no explanation was given as to their profession of expertise. Also there were some entries like 'Dr. Hanumandla Rajinder Reddy' as famous cardiologist in California. There was one entry for P. Siva Reddy as Eye surgeon, K.Ananta Padmanaba Reddy for Land Lord and Faction Revolt From Kurnool, and Dr. Sundeep "Sunner" Reddy as World's expert on faking the Funk, astrology, and farming. If these people all are outstanding in their respective fields, so is Prof. J.N. Reddy. His webpage is http://ceprofs.tamu.edu/jreddy/ and even a cursory reading of his resume will reveal what an outstanding authority he is in his field.
Still if you feel that addition of this entry was nonsense, let me know. You can remove it or if you do not want to do that, I can remove the entry myself. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Girish.khare (talk • contribs) .

Hi - Why is this image tagged {{GFDL}}? The source website doesn't seem to give this type of release. Also, it would be helpful if you could list the url of the html page on the source website where the photo is used rather than just the direct url of the photo. Thanks! -SCEhardT 22:30, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

I see your point, and after reading it went back to both rfa's to reconsider my vote. It was a close decision on my part. Yes they are similar in that they both started to make serious contributions in January. However, Tv316 made almost 3 times as many contributions in January as TigerShark. Tigershark
Alright, these are the basic reasons that I thought Tigershark wasn't ready for adminship. First, he probably has no idea whatsoever on what to do with adminship. He basically said "I'll just do admin-y things" with the powers. That's no biggie by itself, but then there's the issue of how in the world he could have gone so long with so few WP:talk edits. Seriously. What has he been doing in the ten or so months he's been here? SIX edits on wp:talk? Unfortunately, an awful lot of adminship has to deal with policy disputes, and administrators are supposed to be people that we can look up to. Tigershark is completely a novice at this--I don't think he'd disagree with me on that--and I just don't feel that I can trust him. The fact that he hasn't gotten into any conflicts also worries me. Not that it's a bad thing, it's just that combined with the lack of WP:Talk edits, I don't think that this guy knows how to settle disputes. That combined with the lack of a compelling reason to give him the tools made me think "... hmm, ... I don't think so..." As for Tv316, it was more a case of general good feelings about the user and being totally refreshed by his honesty (e.g. "I haven't really made any big edits to an article"). So, I believe that I'll have to stand by my oppose vote, though I do wish your friend the best of luck if he does pass. (By the way, it might be time to archive your talk page. Just throwing that out. ) Matt Yeager ♫ (Talk?) 05:11, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- You know where I stand. Nonetheless, your reasoning is fair enough. By the way, I'm aiming to archive this page in a couple of hours. Thanks. --Jay(Reply) 20:52, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Master Jay/Archives Jan-Mar 2006, thank you for supporting me in my recent RfA. Although it did not succeed as no consensus was declared (final: 65/29/7), I know that there is always an opportunity to request adminship again. If at any time I make any mistakes or if you would like to comment on my contributions to Wikipedia, you are more than welcome to do so. Regardless of your religious, cultural, and personal beliefs, I pray that whatever and whoever motivates you in life continues to guide you on the most righteous path.
