Marián Ostrčil

Marián Ostrčil (born 15 October 1980 in Bratislava) is an athlete from Slovakia. He competes in flatwater canoeing.
In 1998, in Nyköping, Sweden, he became European junior champion in the individual Canadian canoe (C-1) 500m. In 2002 he won the European under-23 championship in Zagreb, Croatia in the same event.
In 2003 he reached the 200m final at the senior World Championships at Gainesville, USA, finishing in sixth place.
Ostrčil was by now Slovakia's undisputed number one senior sprint canoer and represented his country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in both men's C-1 events.
In the 1000m, Ostrčil placed third in the initial heat with a time of 3:56.962. He then placed third in the semifinal to advance to the final with a time of 3:53.820. There, he finished seventh with a time of 3:54.629.
He placed sixth and last in his initial heat of the 500 metre with a time of 1:58.357, but still qualified for the semifinals. In the semifinal, he again finished sixth (this time of eight) with a time of 1:52.871, not advancing to the final.
In 2005 Ostrčil finished ninth in the C-1 1000m final at the European Championships in Poznań. However at the World Championships he was eliminated in the semi-finals in both the 500m and 1000m.
In 2006 he reached two major C-1 500m finals, placing 7th at the European Championships and 8th at the World Championships in Szeged, Hungary.
Ostrčil is 190 cm (6'3") tall and weighs 90 kg (198 lbs). He is a member of the AŠK Dukla club in Trenčín where he is coached by Atlanta silver medallist Slavomír Kňazovický.
