Mandi (Hindi: मंडी) is the central district of Himachal Pradesh, India. There is also a town called Mandi, which has a distinguished history and interesting architecture. It is also an important transportation hub for the district. Sundarnagar is one of the emerging towns of this district. Mandi has a highly educated middle class and people speak a dialect of Hindi called "Mandyali [ www.ethnologue.com/show_language.asp?code=mjl]".

Mandi district was formed with the merger of Mandi and Suket, two princely state names on 15 April 1948. This coincided with the formation of the state of Himachal Pradesh.
