Malystryx or Malys, as she is often referred to, is a large fictional red dragon (appearing in the Dragonlance saga) who came from the world which Kitiara's mount Skie, otherwise known as Khellendros, came from. On this world, Malys is in fact a small dragon who daily fought for her life. She is among the first to come from the alien dragon world to Ansalon, and she quickly takes the eastern lands of Ansalon for herself.

[edit] Arrival on Ansalon
Malys came to Krynn differently than Khellendros had. Khellendros had arrived years before with the aid of Takhisis, however Malys makes her own way and opens the way for other dragons to come. Malys is roughly 400 feet and has blood-red scales. Her first territory is the Dairly Plains in eastern Ansalon. Malys then begins to take Goodlund for herself. She lays an egg; however Riverwind, Hero of the Lance, destroys this egg and sets Malys into a rage in which she destroys Kendermore and kills Riverwind.
[edit] The Dragon Purge
Malys changes the land she rules into a volcanic wasteland, suiting her tastes. Malys discovers that by killing other dragons, she can harness their power and add it to her own. However, killing the dragon is not enough; their skull must be added to a dragon totem, and thus is the energy harnessed. She begins the Dragon Purge, a great event in which dragons kill each other and harness their power. During the Purge, the Knights of Takhisis offer their allegiance to Malys, adding to her mighty army. She brings together the four most powerful dragons aside from herself, Khellendros the Blue, Beryl the Green, Sable the Black, and Gellidus the White. She declares them all Dragon Overlords, and ends the Dragon Purge.
[edit] Attempt at Godhood
In Skie's attempt at finding a vessel for Kitiara Uth Matar's soul, Khellendros has merged together draconians, humans, and a bit of himself (tears) to create dragonspawn, which are much like the dragon themselves in a humanoid form. Malys learns of this, and she demands the secret, which is later transferred to the other Overlords as well. Malys sets about creating her own red dragonspawn, and she also learns the secret of grafting her scales to mortals and turning them into her vessels. She does this to a Knight of Takhisis; however, at his death, he plants it on Dhamon Grimwulf, a former Knight himself, who becomes a very valuable servant for her. Malys, now incredibly powerful, commands the other Overlords to gather magical objects for her planned ascension to godhood. Malys mistakenly trusts Khellendros to aid her and be her new Dragon King. At the Window to the Stars, her planned place of ascension, the Heroes of the Heart and Khellendros thwart her. Khellendros takes the arcane power for himself and bats away Malys into the sea. Malys then begins to regroup and gather her armies.

Malys learns that Beryl has fallen and that Khellendros is nearly defeated. To enact her revenge on him, she goes to his lair and kills him. However, the One God (Takhisis), steals her dragon totem in her absence. Malys goes to Sanction and does battle with Mina in order to retrieve it. Mina then slays the great red.
