Madam's Organ Blues Bar

Madam's Organ Blues Bar is a nightclub on 18th Street NW in Washington, D.C.'s Adams Morgan neighborhood. The bar, a local landmark [1], is popular for blues and bluegrass music, with regular performers including Bobby Parker, Ben Andrews, Catfish Hodge, and Bob Perilla & Big Hillbilly Bluegrass. [2] [3] Aside from the music, the bar also has billiards, a roof-top deck, and serves soul food. [4] Euan Blair, son of Tony Blair, is among the club's notable regular guests. In addition, Soviet Dissident artist Alexandr Zhdanov used to make regular visits before passing away in 2006. [5] Barbara and Jenna Bush have also been spotted at Madam's Organ. [6]

Madam's Orgasmn was originally a combination art gallery and punk/New Wave club, at another location on 18th Street NW. [7] In 1992, it reopened as a blues and bluegrass bar. Madam's Organ moved to its present location in 1997, after a temporary closure. [8] This location once housed the original Toys "R" Us store. [8]

Madam's Organ is also notable for its large outdoor mural, which has been subject of controversy. The mural depicts "Madam", the bar's burlesque mascot, and is considered to be advertising, by the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (among others), as it includes the name of the establishment. Since Madam's Organ did not have a permit for the mural, the bar owner was fined and ordered to get a permit. [9]
