Macauplus

Macauplus (also known as MPLUS) is an internet community in Macau. It was established by several high school students in 2002.

In the beginning of 2002, the forum engine phpBB is very popular. One of the founders CCUBE produced a web portal call SITEngine which is compatible with phpBB. At that time, SITEngine is the only Chinese portal that is compatible with phpBB besides PHP-Nuke and some phpBB modules. In 2003, Macauweb.net (predecessor of Macauplus) established. The Chinese name of Macauweb.net is “.what” which idea comes from Microsoft's .NET and Apple Computer's .mac. As Macauplus developed, the server was overloaded and broken down. That situation lasted almost a month until they moved to a new server which provided a faster connection speed. In 2004, Macauplus offered new services for its members such as website registration, free short domain name and personal blog. In which, the personal blog service had received good comments and soon it was introduced in Macaodaily, a Macau local newspaper. In the middle of 2005, the forum was hacked. As a result, the forum engine was switched to Invision Power Board.

Macauplus is the first website that changes its layout according to different holidays such as Christmas, Chinese New Year and even Black Friday in Macau.

Macauplus is also the first website to apply PNG transparency technology in web design in Macau. Before this technology was out, background transparent images could only be saved into GIF format. However, the total color of GIF format provides (256 colors) has limited the creativity of webdesigners until the support of transparency of PNG format. Nevertheless, PNG transparency technology is not compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer, sometimes errors will appear when browsing.
[edit] CCOUNT Traffic Counter
CCOUNT is a web traffic counter which is created and developed by Macauplus. It could display the traffic in forms of traffic per day, week and per month. It was popular among Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan people.

Macauplus had published Tutorial in Photography, as well as Tutorial in Photoshop.

Macauplus is the first website in Macau that provides Personal Blog services. Members usually use it for diary until Yahoo! Blog and Wordpress appear.
[edit] Participation in Social Activity
In 2005, Macauplus hosted “Guangzhou Youth Club Webpage Competition” with Macau Guangzhou Youth Club. This competition is sponsored by Macau Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Macau Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau and Dreamsky Network Services.
In 2006, Macauplus sponsored the photography competition of Institute For Tourism Studies Macau. This competition is hosted by Institute For Tourism Studies Students IT Club, The Photographic Society of Macao and is sponsored by Macau Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Macau Henry Fok Foundation, Macauplus, JOS Macau and Institute For Tourism Studies.
