Talk:List of polydactyl people

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marilyn Monroe did not have six toes. See http://www.snopes.com/movies/actors/mmtoes.htm

Technically this isn't a list of people who had six toes, it is a list of people alleged to have 6 toes. The site you reference does appear to have a photograph of Marilyn Monroe's 6 toes. Susan Mason

FCOL Sue, look at the name of the page. List of people with six toes. Not List of people with six toes (allegedly), List of people who I read someone where just perhaps may have had six toes. It is definite. Great! A pointless page where some people can't even interpret the meaning of the title. JtdIrL 05:48 Mar 6, 2003 (UTC)

Chuckle - these lists are silly and this one takes the cake. --mav 06:09 Mar 6, 2003 (UTC)

It should perhaps be moved to list of polydactyls, but a lot of people would fail to understand that title. Maybe list of people born with extra digits? I think that this article could be a useful companion article to the new polydactyly one. -- Oliver P. 06:38 Mar 6, 2003 (UTC)

Will I be listed, too? I even have ten toes! Five to the right, five to the left ... -- JeLuF 19:40 Mar 6, 2003 (UTC)

Only if you cut off four of them. Mkweise 19:42 Mar 6, 2003 (UTC)

The discussion about formatting lists of people has been moved to Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (lists)

I've never seen any mention of Churchill possesing an unusual number of digits? Has anyone else? Mintguy (T) 14:30, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Removed churchill

I can't find support anywhere. Lotsofissues 14:45, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

This is a site I found online, but I dunno how reliable it is. [[1]]. Darth Panda 17:36, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
That is a mirror of our own page.  :-) Lotsofissues 06:49, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Anyone know how it is known that Hannibal Lecter has 6 toes (as listed)? I assume its somewhere in a movie, but i dont know where. -- Urukagina 12-22-05

It's in the first book. --Charlene.vickers 05:42, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Trevor Matheson

I removed the following entry:

Trevor Matheson, Automotive Mechanic, born Oct. 20 1982 with an extra thumb on right hand, removed at 10 months by Doctors at the IWK Children's Hospital in Halifax N.S. Canada

I cannot find any information on Matheson, but if someone can provide a reason why this person is notable, feel free to revert my edit. --buck 15:40, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

I've heard many rumors about Martha Stewart having six toes. Anyone know for sure? Qanuta 23:21, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

I think this article does not belong in the category "List of people with disabilities". Not for PC reasons, but simply because amputation of an extra digit is a relatively simple (and common) operation, typically done shortly after birth, and even if the person retains his/her extra digit, it rarely disables them. None of the people on this list are considered disabled. Even some people, such as Hound Dog Taylor and Eric Bristow, seem to have benefited from their extra digit(s). Now the problem I see is that the article will be orphaned if removed from the "List of people with disabilies" category, and frankly, I don't know how to categorize this article! --buck 14:57, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Philistine warrior

This bible reference keeps bouncing between the "Considered authentic" and "Fictional characters" sections:

In the Old Testament, A Philistine warrior with extra digits was killed by Jonathan the son of Shimea, King David's brother (II Sam 21:20, II Chr 20).

Naturally, this one is hard to place. There really is no way to determine whether this warrior was a real person or the product of a fictional (or fictionalized) bible story. He doesn't really fit with the fictional list alongside Hannibal Lector or characters in sci-fi/fantasy novels, but the bible isn't necessarily historically accurate either. "Considered authentic" may be the better place for this reference since by definition, this warrior is considered authentic by some, and the heading doesn't read "Emperically authentic". But how about this: we incorporate this Philistine warrior into the introductory paragraph, stating that II Sam 21:20 is the earliest known documentation of polydactyly (or something to that effect)? Of course, someone will have to look into this, since I'm not completely familiar with Gilgamesh and the Book of the Dead. Your thoughts? --buck 14:04, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I vote for it to be included in the fictional list. I don't consider it authentic. Aaadddaaammm 03:24, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
I do consider it authentic. There won't be an end to the bouncing because of people like you & me. I've created a new section that hopefully is acceptable to everyone...
