List of controversial books
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an attempt to have a long list of controversial books not covered by other lists. The book should have a one liner of why it might be controversial to some. If the book has an article, please just link to the article. Otherwise, list author, etc.
The criteria for this list is intentionally loose. Please check the "see also" lists first and decide if redundancy is justified. If the book is fiction or is not quite successful enough to get banned, maybe it belongs here. Feel free to move book to and from this list to/from the other lists as appropriate. This list is a grab bag to maintain the visibility of controversial books that are too obscure or too new to rate listing on more established lists.
There are subjects, such as sex, politics, religion, authority, social coformance, violence, etc. where it is easy to present a naïve or biased approach would is controversial to somebody. It is hoped that this list could be books that are thought-provoking and, when appropriate, of discernable artistics merit or otherwise notable. This list is a grab-bag for books that could not make onto the other lists. Satire is OK. And that grey area between fiction and non-fiction, the fringe conspiracy theories and UFO stuff - sigh - they can come along too. No comic books or pure pornography, please.
As much as anything, this list is a place for listers to express themselves without creating a new category to make their characterizations because WikiMedia categories require more effort to maintain and manage than lists of article (written and yet-to-be written) do.
Please do not wikify the one-liners.
