This is a list of significant characters from the television programs Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess.

- Alcmene: Alcmene is the mother of Hercules and Iphicles. She also considers Iolaus a son as well. She is a very kind, determined, and spirited person; as well as a good mother. Zeus came to Alcmene in the form of her husband, Amphitryon, and had her conceived with his son. Years later, she married Jason of Corinth. Alcmene had later died peacefully with Hercules, Jason, and Iolaus at her side.
- Alti: Alti is an evil shaman who sought revenge against the Siberian Amazon nation for expelling her from their tribe. Alti drew her power from the deaths of others. When they first met, young Xena was intrigued by Alti and Alti used her to attain more power. She promised to make Xena the Destroyer of Nations. Xena sided with Alti and fell further into darkness. Twelve years later Xena redeemed herself and defeated Alti. Alti's future-life reincarnation, Khindin, was the most powerful manifestation of Alti's spirit confronted by Xena. With the help of the Mehndi, Xena and Gabrielle were able to travel through the karmic tunnel to destroy this manifestation of Alti's evil. The Darshan, Naiyima, revealed that although Alti's spirit would never die, Xena and Gabrielle's spirits would always be there to stop her. Alti made a "come-back" when she tried to steal the soul of Xena's unborn child to help her return to the world. Xena and Gabrielle used magic amber and "The Burial Ritual For Restless Souls" to force Alti back into the spiritual plain.
- Amarice: She is an over-zealous little Amazon. She disputed Eli's philosophy of non-violence and criticized Gabrielle for following it. Amarice vowed to live her life in memory of "The Warrior Princess." She appeared to mature and come into her own as she traveled with Xena and Gabrielle. While visiting the Northern Amazons, Amarice admitted to Gabrielle that she lied about being an Amazon. In a compassionate and wise gesture befitting the Queen of the Amazons, Gabrielle gave Amarice her Amazon necklace and made her an "Amazon sister." Amarice decided to stay with the Northern tribe and learn their customs. Amarice died in a raid on the Amazon village. She bequeathed her Amazon necklace to Gabrielle, but not before adding another bead for Xena's daughter, Eve.
- Callisto: Callisto was a vengeful warrior who became a goddess, a demon, and an angel. As a young girl, her family was attacked by Xena's army when she was evil. Callisto's family were killed in that attack, which drove Callisto to be obsessed with revenge and became a powerful warrior.
- Cyrene: Mother of Xena. Tavern and inn-keeper, prominent figure in the village of Amphipolis.
- Deianeira: Deianeira was the wife of Hercules. She gave birth to his three children; Aeson, Klonus, and Ilea. She was known to be fiesty when she met Hercules. However, Deianeira was killed, along with the children, by Hera.
- Ephiny: A proud and loyal Amazon. Although loyal to her tribe, she wanted to foster peace between her people and the Centaurs. She later marries a Centaur named Phantes, and bares him a son.
- Iphicles: Half brother of Hercules. His father is Amphitryon, and his mother is Alcmene. Bears a passing resemblance to Ares.
- Julius Caesar: Roman general and statesman, the Conqueror of Gaul. Once a lover and now enemy of Xena. He was assassinated by a group of senatorial conspirators on the Ides of March, 44 BC.
- Joxer: Joxer is a loyal friend to both Xena & Gabrielle. He is in love with Gabrielle, but his love is unrequited, so Joxer just settles for being a good friend. Joxer comes from a ruthles warlord family, but he is the White Sheep.
- Lao Ma: Lao Ma is a woman of peace and wisdom. She is hard and soft at the same time, like water. She is probably one of the most influential figures in Xena's life. Lao Ma possesses great spiritual power, which she tried to teach to Xena.
- Lyceus: Younger brother of Xena and Toris. He was killed in battle when Xena led the village against Cortese.
- Mabon
- Najara: A strange woman, who inspired by the Djinn, leads a group of warrors in a fight against evil. Xena soon discovers that Najara is not that good after all, Najara gives the wrongdoers the chance to repent and become good, if they refuse she kills them.
- Nebula
- Xena: Once a power-hungry warlord, she was shown the error of her ways by Hercules and later repented and renounced her old life as an evil warrior. However, as she was about to turn her back on her old life, she came across a group of young girls destined to be sold into slavery. Unable to let this injustice be carried out, she rescued the girls and met a young girl named Gabrielle, who was bored with home life, and wanted to travel with Xena on her adventures.

- Zeus: Zeus was the King of the Olympian Gods. After impregnating Alcmene, he had never been there for Hercules, however he intended on making up for it. He portrayed being a caring father who drops in on Hercules quite frequently. However, he refused to help Hercules with the loss of Deianeira, Serena, or his children. Zeus was killed by Hercules while he tried to kill Xena's daughter Eve.
- Hera: Hera was the Queen of the Olympian Gods and the sister of Zeus. Hera is Hercules' stepmother. It’s only because of Zeus’ unfaithfulness towards Hera that she torments Hercules his entire life. Hera learns that she can’t kill Hercules, so she kills his family before his eyes. Hercules traps Hera in the Abyss of Tartarus, where the Titans are imprisoned. She was released by her grandson, Evander, but without her memories. But when she finally got them back, she made peace with Hercules and Zeus. Hera was supposedly killed by Zeus.
- Hades: Hades was the god of the underworld and brother of Zeus. He first appeared as a villain but then became an ally to Hercules for the rest of the series. He was killed by Xena when she set him on fire.
- Ares: Ares is the Greek God of War. He is the half-brother of Hercules and other gods as well. He is known to be served by Discord, Strife, and Deimos. Xena was once Ares’ protégé. Ares confessed that he was in love with Xena and wanted her to bear his child. Ares gave up his godhood to save the lives of Eve, Gabrielle, and Xena. Some time later, Xena restored Ares’ godhood because the imbalance of dark and light had caused great turmoil on Earth. He is also the father of Cupid which is ironic, since he is a violent god.
- Aphrodite: Aphrodite is the Greek Goddess of Love. She is the half-sister of Hercules and other gods as well. Her son is Cupid, the God of Love. Her husband was Hephaestus, the Metalsmitih of the Gods. Though, she seems to be a flirt and an egotistical person, Aphrodite really is a caring, sentimental goddess who helps out whenever she can. Aphrodite became a friend to mortals: Gabrielle, Iolaus, and Iolaus II. Although Aphrodite survived the “Twilight of the Gods,” she was deeply hurt by the loss of her family. Despite this, and because of her fondness for Gabrielle, she played a role in saving Gabrielle and Eve's lives during Xena’s final battles with Athena and Artemis. When Ares lost his godhood, it weakened Aphrodite as the balance of dark and light were disrupted. This imbalance eventually threw the world into turmoil, depriving it of all love. Xena helped restore both Ares and Aphrodite’s godhood. It was the only way Xena could restore love (and balance) to the world.
- Athena: Athena was the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Warfare, and Weaving. She was the daughter of Zeus and Metis. Athena felt it her duty to kill Xena’s infant daughter who represented to her, the demise of the Olympians. She held Xena responsible for the death of her father, Zeus. Athena led four great armies in a siege on Xena’s hometown of Amphipolis. Ironically, Xena told Athena she was the one god worthy of her respect. Athena relentlessly pursued Xena and enlisted the help of the other gods to kill Xena’s infant daughter. Xena was bestowed with the power to kill gods by yet another supernatural power. As long as Xena’s daughter was alive, Xena would possess the power to kill gods. With this power and the help of Ares, Xena killed Athena.
- Apollo: Apollo is the Greek God of the Sun and son of Zeus and Leto. He is one of the rudest and most arrogant gods on Olympus. He rides around on his golden hoverboard. He tried to be a friend to young Hercules when he got him to eat ambrosia, but turned out that he wanted him to use his powers to hurt and embarrass mortals. He has survived the “Twilight of the Gods”.
- Artemis: Artemis was the Greek Goddess of the Hunt and Wild. She is twin sister of Apollo. Artemis was also known as the Goddess of the Amazons as well. Artemis was killed by Xena with her own arrows on Olympus.
- Discord: Discord was the Greek Goddess of Discord and Retribution. She has always tried to get in Ares’ favor and she’s always fighting with Strife and later Deimos for the position of Ares’ second-in-command. She is willing to go to any lengths to get what she wants, and she doesn’t care who gets in her way while she’s doing it. Discord was beheaded by Xena.
- Strife: Strife was the Greek God of Strife. The twin cousin of Deimos, Strife constantly tagged along with Ares in his numerous plans to fight Hercules and Xena, but usually bumbled the operations. Also butting heads on occasion with Discord, who also wanted attention from Ares, Strife usually tried Ares' patience. Strife was killed by Callisto when she stained a dagger with the Hind's blood, one of the only things that could kill a god, and stabbed him.
- Deimos: Deimos was the Greek God of Terror. He is the twin cousin of Strife. Deimos was known for his annoying laughter and idiotic ideas. After Strife’s death, he was constantly fighting Discord for the position of Ares’ second-in-command. Deimos was killed by Xena when an explosion caused a wheelbarrow to fall on top of him.
- Nemesis: Nemesis was the Greek Goddess of Divine Justice and Retribution. She was Hercules’ childhood friend and sweetheart. Nemesis is a very good archer and was the avenger for the gods. She would kill any mortal the gods didn’t like, just at their command. Nemesis was ordered to kill Iolaus and Hercules, but she refused to kill Hercules and Hera turned her into a mortal. Nemesis has a son, Evander, impregnated by Ares.
- Dahak: Dahak is a powerful godly entity that is bent on evil, chaos, and destruction. He had impregnated Gabrielle, the Battling Bard of Poetedia, with his evil daughter, Hope. When Gilgamesh killed Iolaus, a servant of Dahak, the evil god took control over Iolaus’s body. Dahak had made his way into killing the Sumerian Gods and the Druids. He almost eliminated the Norse Gods and the Greek Gods.
- Baldur: Baldur is the Norse God of Light. He is the youngest and third son of Odin and Frigga. He is the younger brother of Loki and Thor. Baldur is one of the few gods in the world that cares about mortals. Baldur and Hercules each had the exact same dream at the same time, in which Baldur asks Hercules to help him just before he dies. Hercules travels to the Norseland after the dream, and meets Baldur. After Baldur is killed, Hercules must find out who did it and why. Hercules ended up changing the past with the paint of Fate and he saves Baldur's life and stops Ragnarok, the Twilight of the Gods.
- Kernunnos: Kernunnos is the horned god of Celtic polytheism. He is a nature god associated with fertility.
- Loki: Loki is the Norse god of mischief.

- Echidna: Echidna is the infamous mother of all monsters. She was married to Typhon, a giant, but Hera trapped him and so Echidna became evil and used her children for the same purpose, and Hercules was forced to kill them all. Echidna took it upon herself to kill Hercules, in front of his mother, Alcmene, so Alcmene could see how it feels. Echidna turns good, though, when Typhon is brought back to her.

- Hercules
- Deon
- Evander: Evander is the demigod son of Nemesis and Ares. His powers mainly consist of whatever he imagines turns into reality, which makes him a valuable asset for Ares. After Hercules and Iolaus teach Evander how to use his power for good, Zeus uses Evander to release Hera from the Abyss of Tartarus, but a couple of the Titans also get released by accident. Evander was accidentally killed by debris from an energy bolt that Hera threw at Hercules, and Evander was just about the only thing Hera cared about. Zeus and Hera managed to heal him with their combined powers.
- Hippolyte: Mortal daughter of Ares; she was queen of the Amazons.
- Morrigan
- Hope The Daughter of Dahak. Born by the Battling Bard, Gabrielle, she possessed a link to the powers of Dahak and telekinesis. She killed Solan, the son of Xena.
- The Sovereign: In an alternate timeline Hercules became the tyrannical Sovereign, and never became the people's champion.

- Golden Hinds: Part female human and part deer, covered in gold. The blood is poisonous to Gods.
- Serena: Serena was the last of the Golden Hinds. Hercules fell in love with Serena and gave up his powers so he could married her.
- Argo: A palomino horse, which happens to be the calvary horse of Xena. Argo can sense danger, use martial arts, and issue commands to other horses.
