This is a list of Firefox extensions, software plugins that add new features to the Mozilla Firefox web browsers. Most Firefox extensions work in the SeaMonkey web browser as well. For a more technical description, see Extension (Mozilla).

Most of these extensions are open-source software, but some are not, including 1-Click Weather and the Google Toolbar for Firefox.

  • 1-Click Answers provides quick access to Answers.com definitions of highlighted words.
  • 1-Click Weather The Weather Channel's version of Forecastfox but with more features
  • Adblock or its variant Adblock Plus is used for blocking ads via a blacklist.
  • Adsense Notifier (more info) is an extension that allows Adsense publishers to display their earnings on the Firefox toolbar.
  • Advanced Dork:(more info) Provides right-click functionality to highlighted word or phrases for immediate use with Google’s Advanced Operators.
  • All-in-one Sidebar (more info) is a sidebar control, inspired by Opera's. It lets you quickly switch between sidebars, view dialog windows such as downloads, extensions, and more in the sidebar, or view source or websites in the sidebar. It includes a slide-out button and a toolbar, all of which can be extensively customized.
  • AllPeers is a proprietary extension that provides file-sharing by peer-to-peer among friends registered to the service. Currently in public beta test.
  • Biobar (more info) is a toolbar that provides easy access to more than 40 biological and bioinformatics databases, including resouces at the NCBI, EBI and others.
  • Book Burro (more info) adds an information box when looking at book information on many popular websites. This box can be used to compare prices at other sites and check if a book is in stock at many libraries.
  • Bookmark Backup creates an automatic backup of bookmarks each time the browser is closed, which can be restored in the event of profile corruption.
  • Chatsum is an extension which allows users to chat with people visiting the same website.

  • ChatZilla is a full-fledged IRC chat client that works inside Firefox.
  • ChromEdit(more info) is an editor that allows you to edit various configuration files from within the browser. Files you can edit are UserChrome.css, UserContent.css, User.js, and Prefs.js.
  • Colorful Tabs extension that adds up different colors to the tabs opened in Mozilla Browser.Download Mozilla Add on here
  • CookiePie (aka ChocoTorta) is a Firefox extension to have different mails accounts (Gmail/Yahoo!/etc) or application profiles on each tab.
  • Cookiesafe is a Mozilla web browser extension that allows you to control which websites have permission to store cookies.
  • Copy Plain Text Does exactly what its name implies. Also good for copying tables to excel. More Info
  • CustomizeGoogle adds features such as Google Suggest and Yahoo! and Internet Archive links to Google search results pages. It also can remove ads.
  • CuteMenus Crystal SVG (download) adds colorful icons to Firefox's menu items, including icons for extension-created menu items.
  • Dai.sy (download) "Turns Any Web Space, Into A Meeting Place." Meet your fellow website visitors. Share with them any folder on your PC. Leave a blog for those that come after you.

  • DealMine.com (download) Search tool to compare discounts, miles, points and other rewards from major membership programs combined with comparison shopping search. It also includes a capability to highlight text anywhere on the web and right-click to quickly compare prices on products or find discounts/rewards at leading stores.
  • Deepest Sender (home page) is a blog client, with primary focus on LiveJournal protocol but also supports number of other protocols with varying extent of features. It supports normal HTML editing, WYSIWYG editing and previewing.
  • Dictionary Tooltip Double clicking on the word gives the definition of the selected word in a tool tip. Download Mozilla Add-on here
  • digg.com toolbar (download) Toolbar for the social bookmarking website digg.com. Contains many rss feeds, search digg, submit to digg button, digg.com chat room and links to every diggnation broadcast.
  • Diigo Toolbar(download) Toolbar for social annoation and bookmarking. Allows users too add sticky notes to pages for both public and private uses. Web annotation
  • DOM Inspector is for web developers. It allows them to inspect the Document Object Model tree of any page.
  • DownThemAll! (more info) lets you download files on the Internet faster than Firefox's downloader. It does not replace Firefox's downloader.
  • EggOn (more info) gives you a timer which measures not only cooking times for eggs, but other user definable variables.
  • eQuake Alert (more info) alerts you with the basic information (date, location, and magnitude) of each earthquake in realtime. By default your browser will shake proportional to the earthquake magnitude. You can configure the alert methods and even you can limit the alerts by the earth quake magnitude. The recent quakes menu provides a link to the detailed information of quake @ the USGS (US Geological Survey) website.
  • ErrorZilla changes Firefox's default page not found to a nice looking page with additional useful features such as Google Cache, Coralize, Wayback, Ping, Trace, and Whois. (download)
  • Farkit is a plugin for Mozilla Firefox which makes replying to comments on Fark easier. (download)
  • Fasterfox prefetches links on pages to make firefox browsing a faster experience
  • Feedview allows Firefox to open RSS and Atom feeds as webpages.
  • Fire Bug JoeHewitt lets you explore the far corners of the DOM by keyboard or mouse. All of the tools you need to poke, prod, and monitor your JavaScript, CSS, HTML and Ajax are brought together into one seamless experience, including a debugger, error console, command line, and a variety of fun inspectors.   • Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE) backs up your extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences and cookies. (More info/download)
  • Firefoxit (more info) is an extension for the integration of widgets.
  • Firefox Showcase (more info) displays each open browser tab as a thumbnail image.
  • FireFTP is a free, secure, cross-platform FTP client for Mozilla Firefox which provides easy and intuitive access to FTP servers. More info/download
  • Flashblock prevents Flash movies from playing without explicitly starting them or adding the originating site to a whitelist
  • FlashGot (more info) provides massive download features (like downloading all link or selected links from a page at once) and seamless integration with several external download manager programs.
  • FootieFox displays live soccer scores in the statusbar and notifies you in case of a goal. (more)
  • Forecastfox (more info) is a Firefox browser extension created by Jon Stritar and Richard Klein that displays a summary of weather forecast for a given location in the status bar, menu bar or toolbar. The summary takes the form of icons depicting sun, clouds or rain for one or more days ahead. Hovering over the icons shows more information such as temperature and wind speed. Forecast information is provided by Accuweather. Previously, the feed was provided by weather.com but the terms and conditions became too restrictive. See also 1-Click Weather, above.
  • FoxyTunes lets you control an external media player (like iTunes) within Firefox. It is skinnable by installing a skin extension
  • Free eBook Search (more info) is a Firefox browser extension created by James which allows you to search by Select -> Right Click -> eBook Search -> criteria.
  • FreeTranslate(more info) Enables right-click lookup of any word on a webpage in a Multilingual Dictionary. Supports 10 different languages.
  • GameFOX Allows enhanced browsing of the GameFAQs Message Boards
  • Google Browser Sync allows users to store Firefox bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved bookmarks on googles servers so that when using firefox on a different computer that information will be the same on all computers.
  • Google Notebook allows users to access the service without navigating away from their current webpage, allowing highlighted text and images to be added to a user's notebook without the need for copy-pasting.
  • G space allows to store the files from the local system in to Gmail account Memory. Access made easy. Download Mozilla Add-on here
  • Google Preview shows small thumbnail images of each Google search result when you do a Google search. (download)
  • Google Toolbar for Firefox has identical functions to the Google Toolbar (for IE), with some features removed, some added.

  • Googlepedia shows you Wikipedia articles along with your Google search results.
  • Greasemonkey allows users to install user scripts that modify specific web pages.
  • Hyperwords makes all the words on the web interactive, not just hand-made hyperlinks. Select any text and choose a command from a pop-up menu, including searches, references, translations, email, blogging and so on. For example, any text can be looked up in Wikipedia in 1 click on any page. Many customization options are available.
  • IE Tab allows users to view pages using the Internet Explorer rendering engine from within Mozilla Firefox. This is useful for some websites that do not work properly in Firefox.
  • IE View (More Info) allows users to view pages using the Internet Explorer web browser on certain pages. This is useful for some websites that do not work properly in Firefox, while making it immediately evident that IE is running (IE Tab could confuse some users into thinking they're using Firefox, when they're using Internet Explorer, with all of its security vulnerabilities, standards incompatibilities, etc).
  • Image Zoom allows users of Gecko based browsers (e.g. Mozilla Firefox) the ability to change image sizes within the web page. There are several ways the user can zoom images through the interface as well as the ability to zoom single images or an entire page of images.
  • Joga.com Companion creates a visual theme for Mozilla Firefox as well as providing tools relating to the 2006 FIFA World Cup and Joga.com
  • Launchy enables the user to launch external applications -- such as other browsers, imaging applications, or text editors -- from Firefox's context menu.
  • LinkificationMore Info Converts text links into genuine, clickable links.
  • LiveClick More Info Creates a link to the homepage of RSS feeds
  • Map+ More Info View a map of a selected address without changing windows or tabs using the right click command.
  • Mouse Gestures allows users to use editable mouse gestures and rocker gestures for navigation and page viewing.
  • Mozex allows the use of any text editor to write e-mails, forum posts, or other documents normally edited inside web browser text fields.
  • NeedleSearch is an alternative search toolbar which can add additional search engines without downloading any additional software. The user's guide explains how to do this.
  • NewsFox (more info) is an RSS reader. It supports RSS and Atom.
  • NoScript prevents the execution of Javascript, Java applets and other potentially harmful content types unless the user has added the site to a whitelist.
  • Notify (more Info) allows to monitor selected websites. It can also open them at a chosen time and display page's last modified date in the status bar.
  • Platypus (more info) is a Mozilla Firefox web browser extension. It is an implementation of a software concept known as "active scripting", where the user can modify web pages and save the changes as a Greasemonkey script, so that they'll be repeated the next time the page is visited.
  • PDF Download (more info) (download) is an extension for Mozilla Firefox that allows to choose if you want to view a PDF file inside the browser (as PDF or HTML), if you want to view it outside Firefox with your default or custom PDF reader, or if you want to download it!.
  • Piggy Bank (more info) turns Firefox it into a Semantic Web browser, letting you make use of existing information on the Web in more useful and flexible ways not offered by the original Web sites.
  • Popup Blocker Settings (more info) allows you to modify Firefox's built-in pop-up blocker to open all pop-up windows, block unrequested, or block all. The "Block all" and "Open all" settings are each improvements over Firefox's defaults.
  • Professor X (more info) allows you to view a page's head contents without viewing the sourcecode.
  • Propfire (more info) HF Radio propagation monitor for ham radio operators and shortwave enthusiasts. Propfire allows you to keep track of solar and geomagnetic data important to HF radio propagation all within the Firefox status bar.
  • Psyc (more info) Open Source communications extension with Instant Messenger and Chat features. The PSYC Protocol enables you to communicate with other PSYC users as well as Jabber and IRC.
  • PurpleBunny is a toolbar that lets users read and write comments about websites. All comments are posted on the public PurpleBunny website, a modified phpBB forum.
  • RankQuest SEO Toolbar (download) (more info) provides access to various Search Engine Optimization tools from within Firefox.
  • Reel New Media Toolbar (more info) is a Broadcast Media Toolbar which features LIVE and Video Online Broadcasts including News, Sports, Entertainment, LifeStyle, and more. The toolbar offers 1 click links to the best online broadcasts, plus the best web sites on the Internet.

  • Reveal does two things. When you press F2, it shows thumbnails of all open tabs. Click on a thumbnail to go to that tab. When you press F2 then Insert, it shows thumbnails of all pages in your browser history. Click on a thumbnail to jump back to that page. (download)
  • Sage (more info) is an RSS reader developed by Peter Andrews and Erik Arvidsson. It supports RSS and Atom.
  • Scrapbook Highlight text, create sticky notes, and more to Web pages and Web sites that are saved to your desktop. Scrapbook Includes full text search and quick filtering of saved pages. (one of the winners in the Extend Firefox Contest)
  • SeoQuake (more info) is a Mozilla Firefox extension developed to help out webmasters with SEO research. It gives access to quick view of site parameters in the Search Engine Results Pages "SERP" (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Yandex, Rambler are supported).
  • Session Manager (more info) saves and restores the state of all windows - either when you want it or automatically at startup and after crashes. Additionally it offers you to reopen (accidentally) closed windows and tabs.
  • Session Saver (more info) is designed to save all open tabs and internet sites since the last use - a similar feature is included in the Opera browser as standard.

  • Smiley Xtra allows users to insert a wide variety of smilies into UltimateBB forums using ubbCode.
  • SmoothWheel (more info | download) allows you to scroll pages "smoothly" with the mouse wheel.
  • SpellBound allows to spell check textareas and input boxes and supports international dictionaries. It was created by modifying the Mozilla Composer spellcheck function. Download from here for Firefox 1.0.x and from here for Firefox 1.5.x. (Firefox 2.0.x has spellchecking built in.)
  • StumbleUpon allows users to encounter random sites based upon the rating given by stumblers.

  • Stylish (more info | download | user guide) is to CSS what Greasemonkey is to JavaScript. Users can install styles to customize websites or the Mozilla applications. Editing the UserChrome.css and UserContent.css files can achieve the same thing, but using Stylish does not require restarting.
  • Tab Mix Plus more info popular tab-browsing enhancements.
  • Tamil Wikipedia Search AMO page searchs Wikipedia, the default language is Tamil, but if you add language code such as "en:" it can be multi-lingual.
  • Tamper Data (more info) is geared towards Web developers. It allows users to modify HTTP headers (including Cookies) and POST data before it is transmitted to the target website. Tamper Data also provides a list of previous HTTP requests and responses. This allows a developer to see exactly what data was transmitted by Firefox, even if it was transmitted over a secure connection.
  • TAW3 with a click (download) allows to verify, with just a click, the accessibility of the Web sites that you are visiting, by means of the TAW3 online service and making use of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 1.0).
  • TimeTracker (more info) tracks the time spent online.
  • UnPlug (website) downloads embedded audio and videos from websites
  • Venkman is a JavaScript debugger for Web developers.
  • VideoDownloader (more info | download) allows you to download videos from Youtube, Google Video, Metacafe, DailyMotion and other video sites.
  • Web Developer (download) provides many useful features for Web designers and programmers. For example, it allows users to do live editing of HTML, CSS, and cookies, resize the browser window, and disable JavaScript, cookies, caching, or page colors.
  • WengoPhone is GPL VoIP client that supports the Wengo SIP service.
  • Who Is This Person? (download) lets you search for any person's name on LinkedIn, Wikipedia, Technorati, Yahoo Person Search, and elsewhere. To use it, highlight and then right-click on a person's name.
  • Wikipedia Toolbar for Firefox (more info) provides a Wikipedia search box as well as a variety of editing tools for Wikipedia editors and administrators.
  • Wikipedia Lookup Extension addon page provides a quick way to highlight a word on a page and look it up in Wikipedia.
  • X-Ray (more info) allows you to see the HTML tags on a page without viewing the sourcecode.
  • Xboard.us toolbar (addon page) gives a handytoolbar for xboard.us bullettin board.Xboard (bulletin board)
  • Yakalike (more info) allows people browsing the same web page to chat with one another.
  • Yuku (more info) is a website integration extension for those with Yuku accounts allowing them to be notified of new activity on their accounts, among other features.
