Linux Unified Key Setup
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Linux Unified Key Setup or LUKS is a hard disk encryption standard for Linux created by Clemens Fruhwirth.
Unlike most other disk encryption software standards, LUKS is implemented by using a standard on-disk format rather than a reference implementation. This not only facilitates compatability and interoperability amongst various Linux distributions but also provides secure management of multiple end-user passwords. The reference implementation for LUKS is implemented in an enhanced version of cryptsetup.
