Lawrence H. Gipson

Lawrence Henry Gipson (1880–September 26, 1971) was a U.S. historian, who won the 1950 Bancroft Prize and the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for History.
A native of Greeley, Colorado, Gipson was a 1903 graduate of the University of Idaho and was selected to be one of the first Rhodes Scholars. He received a B.A. from Oxford University in 1907 and a Ph.D. from Yale University in 1918.
From 1911 to 1924, Gipson was the head of the history department at Wabash College, after which he was a professor of history at Lehigh University until his death. Gipson became one of the leading scholars of the British Empire.
Gipson married Jeannette Reed in 1909. She died in 1967.
Gipson's ashes were buried in Caldwell, Idaho.
