Kernu Gorse
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is a legend about the seven-whorl juniper of Kernu. It is told that once, at beginning of the Great Northern War, Swedish troops had stayed there. King Carl XII himself is said to have been with them. In the evening, when he was sitting by the fire together with the army leaders he had taken twelve juniper sticks and said: "If these junipers start growing, a long peacetime will arrive to this country!" With these words he had stuck the sticks into the ground and added: "And this juniper will be green for as long as long as the Swedish state flourishes." The sticks started to grow and had stayed verdant up to the present.
