Karl Mayer is the name of a fictional character on the ABC television series Desperate Housewives. The character is played by actor Richard Burgi.

Karl Mayer is Susan's ex-husband and a lawyer. Susan divorces him after he leaves her for his secretary, Brandi. Susan also discovers that he flirted with Edie while they were married. Karl is somewhat jealous of Mike and actually asks to get back together with Susan. Karl has a fling with Edie Britt. When Susan is in need of health insurance for surgery, she re-marries Karl, but they plan on getting a divorce afterwards. However, Karl convinces Susan, that he had broken up with Edie and manipulates her into sleeping with him again. After Edie finds out the truth, both Karl and Susan have to suffer her rage. Karl returned in season three in the episode "Children and Art".
