Kaprije (island)

Kaprije is an island in Croatian part of Adriatic Sea. It is situated in Šibenik archipelago. It has area of 6.97 km² and population of 143.[1] Only settlement on the island is also named Kaprije.[2] The island is composed of hills divided by transversal and longitudinal valleys in which grass and sparse pine forests grow.[3] Grapes and olives are cultivated there.[4] Main industries are agriculture, fishing and tourism.[4] Automobiles are not allowed on the island.[2][5][6]
In 14th and 15th century the island belonged to noble families from Šibenik.[3] During Ottoman conquests in 16th and 17th century, the island is inhabited by refugees from mainland.[3] Around that time, a Saint Peter's church was built on the island.[3]
