Julian Dean

Julian Dean (born 28 January 1975 in Rotorua, New Zealand) is a road racing cyclist who rides for Credit Agricole. Dean has rode the 2006 Tour de France and the 2004 Tour de France finishing both times. His other main achievement is finishing 9th in the 2005 World Road Championships in Madrid. This is one better then his 10th place finish in 2002 in Zolder.

Dean started cycling when was only a child at the local BMX club in Waihi where he had success with two third place finishes in the New Zealand Championships. Dean tried his hand at many sports before moving onto triathlon to which he enjoyed. From triathlon Dean fell in live with cycling, where he represented New Zealand in road and track. In 1997 Dean got his chance to race in the USA with the Shaklee team and the Mercury cycling team in 1998.

In 1999 joined US Postal to which he road for until 2001 gaining experience from racing in Europe. After realising riding in a team based around Lance Armstrong Dean went looking for new opportunities and hegot it by join CSC in 2002. However, his joy was shortlived as Dean broke his leg in March 2002 and was out for three months. He took his first win in Europe with a stage in the Tour de la Region Wallone.

In 2004 He was signed for Credit Agricole as a lead out man for sprinter Thor Hushovd and finished 8th behind stage winner Tom Boonen. He missed the 2005 edition due to injury suffered in the 2005 Giro d'Italia. He later returned for the [2006]] race.
