Johnny Thomson

Johnny Thomson (April 9, 1922 - September 24, 1960) was an American racecar driver.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, Thomson aka "the Flying Scot" died in Allentown, Pennsylvania as a result of injuries sustained in a sprint car crash. He drove in the AAA and USAC Championship Car series, racing in the 1953-1960 seasons with 69 starts, including the Indianapolis 500 races in each season. He finished in the top ten 43 times, with 7 victories. His best Indy finish was 3rd in 1959.
Thomson was the 1958 USAC Sprint Car Series champion. He was also the 1952 AAA Eastern Midget champion and the 1954 Eastern Sprint Car champion.
As the Indy 500 was a Formula One race from 1950-1960, he is credited with participating in 8 grands prix with 1 podium and 9 championship points.

- Thomson was inducted in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1996 and the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 1997.
