Jingzhe

Jingzhe (Traditional Chinese: 驚蟄; Simplified Chinese: 惊蛰; pinyin: jīng zhé; Japanese: 啓蟄; Korean: 경칩), sometimes called the Waking of Insects, is a solar term beginning when the Sun lies between the celestial longitude of 345° and 360°. It sometimes refers in particular to the day when Sun exactly at the celestial longitude of 345°. It is the third solar term in a year.

Jingzhe usually begins around March 5 and ends around March 21. For Jingzhe's more accurate meaning, it refers to a day either on March 5 or March 6. Usually Jingzhe will be on March 5 if it is in leap year or the year after leap year.
The Chinese word 驚蟄 have the meaning of waking of hibernated insects. 驚 is startling, and 蟄 is hibernated (insects). The traditional Chinese farming culture said that during Jingzhe, thunderstorm will wake up the hibernated insects, which also means the beginning of spring.
