Warrior, I replied to your comment on my talk page. As a courtesy, I copy the reply here for you.
- Hi Warrior, I do not do edit wars -- I removed the section with the numerical calculations in the Iron Palm article because the physics numbers are completely misleading - the precision (so many decimal places!) is totally out of line with input assumptions. I am not opposed to a qualitative description of the power of the 'move' in question. But having such precise numbers is just not good science.
- I have no position on whether Iron Palm is a valid marial art technique.

Hi,
I started in Crane style a long time ago in Taiwan. That didn't last very long because the teacher was doing my host family a favor and teacing me became inconvenient for him. Then I worked with a teacher who taught some forms that he called Shaolin and some forms that he called Xing-yi. After I returned to the U.S. I fairly quickly fell in with the Shotokan karate group at my university, and have pretty much stuck with that except for a year with a Wado style teacher who was a friend of my favorite Shotokan teacher. I went back to Taiwan about ten years after my first stay there and fell in with a Praying Mantis style group. About the only thing I haven't done is Wing-chun, I guess. But I think I got the idea for the newspaper practice from something I read by or about Bruce Lee. So I'm the proverbial Jack of all trades.

I'm taking 5 minutes from grading finals, so this will have to be short. My Tanglang teacher in Taiwan was fantastic, but it was "all in his body" and he generally couldn't tell you what he had just done to defeat my little tricks that worked on all his students. So I had to keep watching him and getting stopped a bunch of times until I saw what he was doing. (One time it was rotating his whole body a mere 10 degrees...) The style was way too complicated for me. So many techniques, so many names, etc., that I couldn't put it all together right. I did learn some very useful qin-na stuff from him. I've been extremely lucky with Shotokan, until I ended up in North Carolina that is. For the longest time wherever I moved I was within easy walking distance of one of the best teachers. Then, when I was in Iowa I had to drive 90 miles each way on Saturday. Still worth it. Now I am in harness, so I train myself when I can.

The problem with the two articles is not that they're fake - I'm well aware that these gangs likely do exist (I'm not from Chicago, so I don't know). The problem is that they are both original research, and not cited for the most part (in fact, when I nominated the Almighty Saints article, it had no sources, and it wasn't until the first one was AFD'd that both articles got some sort of slap-dash citations).
The websites they lead to are written by gangmembers, not news organizations, law enforcement agencies or whatever, so they can't be taken as accurate, even if they likely are. As an extreme example, someone could write on one of those pages that "We have nuclear weapons", and there'd be no way to verify it, other than to take them at their word. That's original research, and that goes against WP:NOR, which is WP policy.
If someone can actually give valid (news, law enforcement, etc.) references, that may sway the vote. But until then, my vote on it stands, and if Latin Kings isn't fixed in another week, I'm going to recommend that article for AFD as well. Hope this helps.--み使い Mitsukai 18:48, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
