[edit] History
Replacing Harvey Dent (after he became Two-Face) as District Attorney, Porter has a history with Dent, apparently having an affair with him before he married Gilda Dent. When she became D.A. for Gotham City, she was Two-Face's ally in law, becoming his lover again and arranging for Alberto Falcone to move back to the Falcone mansion (in order for Two-Face and his super-villain allies to frame him and drive him insane).
Notably throughout the year, Mario Falcone informs her on his family's crime activities, making Gordon suspicious.
Porter and Commissioner Gordon do not particularly like each other, as Gordon suspects her of having an affair with Mario Falcone and thinks that she is foolish to consider putting Alberto on parole. The Batman also does not think highly of her (and Porter doesn't like Batman either).
After attempting to find Harvey after his disastrous trial as suspect for being the Hangman (comics) (in which several of the Batman rogues gallery helped him escape), the Joker and the Scarecrow found her in the tunnels, and brought her in to Harvey. The two psychopaths are both annoyed to find that Porter has been sleeping with Dent, and are both about to take her hostage when Porter desperately pleads to Harvey to tell them about their "love". At this, Two-Face shoots her twice (covering Joker and Scarecrow with blood, at which Joker responds, "ewwwww...."), killing her.
Her body and organs are somewhat preserved by the same technology Mr. Freeze used for his wife, and her body is then used to frame Alberto for killing her (though Batman and Gordon deduce that Alberto didn't shoot her at all).
At her grave, Gordon sadly notes, "Such a waste...".
