J.E. Remy (born August 31, 1977, Salt Lake City) is an American writer. He also works as an editor and writing assistant (a peer tutor for the general public). As of 2006, he lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. He is engaged to be married to Alexis Marsh.

[edit] Biography
Born Jeremy Thomas Remy to DeAnn Graham Remy and Thomas Michael Remy in Salt Lake City, Utah, Remy moved continually throughout his childhood. The majority of his moves were within Utah, North Carolina, and Texas. Initially, reading and writing came with great difficulty for Remy. Yet, through the efforts of his mother, he soon began reading the works of James Howe, H.G. Wells, C.S. Lewis, and Bram Stoker. He later became a fan of works by such authors as Mary Shelley, H.P. Lovecraft, Alan Moore, Clive Barker, and Neil Gaiman. Remy also read and enjoyed the works of Flannery O'Connor, finding inspiration through the use of biblical themes in dark fiction.
In 1994, he was Editor-in-Chief of Wellspring Literary Magazine; Volume B VI, the literary magazine for John Marshall High School in San Antonio. This publication won top honors from the National Council of Teachers of English and the Columbia University Press Association. Despite such accomplishments, he suffered from bouts of depression and did little to retain interest in a pragmatic education.
Throughout high school, he struggled with his Mormon faith, finding flaws in its history, and having a strong sense that much of the theology was inherently unknowable or incoherent and thus irrelevant to life. Soon after graduating, Remy found solace by leaving the Latter Day Saint religion and embracing the practice of agnosticism.
In the early 1990s and throughout the 2000s, Remy pursued study in religion and literature. While autodidactic in method, his studies were able to provide him with a vast knowledge of the methods of storytelling and the belief systems of a variety of cultures. Eventually, he would supplement this knowledge through the studies of Philosophy and English at Salt Lake Community College (where he would obtain commendations on the 2005 Dean’s and President’s Lists) and, later, Westminster College, Salt Lake City.
After forming a friendship with filmmaker Loren Teryl, Remy started focusing on his writing. In 2001, he would work on his first feature film, Disco Punk Zombies. While initially hired on as a script editor, this role eventually led to an extensive revision and rewrite process that ended with him as a screenwriter on the completed project. At the same time, Remy began working at the Convergys Corporation on their DirecTV project. Here he would assist in the development of a “Cyber Response” email team in India and work on DirecTV’s “Project Simple” (essentially a preventative approach to regulating those accounts effected by new programming packages DirecTV began in February of 2002). Yet, by June 2004 he would find his position in life to be less than satisfying.
In 2004, he published his first short story, In Agony, and first piece of poetry, The End is Near. He would again work as a script editor for a short film: The Path. And, after a brief time as a classroom facilitator for Utah State University, Remy took a job as Editor for Salt Lake Community College’s literary magazine, Folio. He would remain in this position from May 2005 to May 2006, and eventually meet his future wife, Alexis Marsh. He also gained a position as editor of The Art of Service: Proceedings from the Second Annual Utah Service Symposium, for Salt Lake Community College’s Thayne Center and as a writing assistant at Salt Lake’s Community Writing Center. Here he assisted people of all abilities and educational backgrounds with their writing and began teaching a variety of writing topics in theme-based classes.
Remy continues to write, edit, and teach, and uses a weblog to promote his writing and update the public on his status.
[edit] Current Work
In addition to continually working on short stories, as well as presentations and workshops, Remy is working on a novel length piece with the working title Tarot. In it he plans to make use of classic horror and suspense literature while touching on the themes of religion and evil.
Remy's style is characterized by the notion of a dark, fantastical world existing within our own, the Lovecraftian theme of unknown and unknowable evil, and the role of philosophy and religion in modern society. With a magical realism involving both supernatural and realistic characters, his style is that of a post-modern writer using the themes and tools of Victorian literature.

Remy is engaged to Alexis Marsh, whom he met while working as editor for Folio magazine, Salt Lake Community College’s literary magazine. He currently lives in Salt Lake City with his fiance. The household also includes their dog, Sara, and cat, Zoe.
He retains continuous contact with his mother, DeAnn Remy, brothers, Nick and Shawn Remy, and sisters, Tiffany and Stephanie Remy. His father, Thomas Remy, is currently living in California. They retain irregular contact.
His writing is further assisted by his best friend, Loren Teryl, and “writing life partner,” Rachel Jardine.
