International Mathematics Competition for University Students
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The International Mathematics Competition for University Students (IMC) is an annual mathematics competition open to all undergraduates reading mathematics. It is held at a different location each year, often in Eastern Europe.
The event has been running since 1994 with the first four competitions (originally entitled International Competition for University Students in Mathematics) organized by the University of Sofia and hosted by the University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. It lasts one week during which competitors sit two five-hour examinations, each with six questions chosen by a panel or representatives from a number of universities. Problems are from the fields of Algebra, Analysis (Real and Complex) and Combinatorics. The working language is English. Efforts have been made to make accessibility as wide as possible; the cost of attending has been subsided by a number of sponsors. Students from a total of 139 universities from 35 countries have participated over the first twelve competitions.
