International Cars & Motors Limited (ICML), is a group company of the Rs. 1200 crores SONALIKA Group. The company is promoted by Mr. L.D. Mittal, Chairman, Mr. A.S. Mittal, Vice Chairman and Mr. Deepak Mittal, Managing Director, who have vast experience in manufacturing tractors, farm machines and automobiles.
The company has a state of the art production facility, with a centrally air-conditioned, dust and pollution free environment. This facility manufactures multi utility vehicles (MUV) and sports utility vehicles in Amb, Himachal Pradesh.
This facility is a ‘Mother Unit’ as its establishment attracts many other ancillary and small units for meeting its input material requirements. This is supposed to result in increased employment, increased government revenue and increased industrialization in the state.
The company entered into a technical collaboration agreement with MG Rover of UK. With technical know how from MG Rover, the company developed the Rhino MUV, which was to be powered by Rover engines. The initial powerplant is a 2.0L four-cylinder Isuzu engine locally-sourced from Hindustan. The company is developing its own Common Rail Direct injection (CRDi) engines. Production was announced in early 2006.
The company has an installed capacity to manufacture 2,000 MUVs in a month or 24,000 MUVs in a year. In the first full year of production in 2006 – 2007, ICML aims to produce about 5,000 MUVs and expects to achieve a turnover of Rs. 250 crores. The company, besides catering to the domestic market, also wants to export and hopes to sell in Nepal. Talks for exports to Malaysia and Indonesia are also in an advanced stage. It will also sell the product in the African continent.
The company is eligible for central and state government tax subsidies including exemption from excise duty and income tax for 10 years. This should add to its viability and future expansion.
Sonalika Group intends to inject Rs. 1,000 crores in Himachal Pradesh over the next 2 to 3 years in the upcoming ICML Plant. ICML has an ambitious plan to play a major role in the Indian automobile industry. The MUV will be positioned in line with the Travera and Qualis and is designed to have mass appeal.
