IndieTits is a webcomic by Jeph Jacques. It was first published on April 1, 2005. It is a two-panel comic whose humor is based almost entirely on the writing.
Each IndieTits panel is one of five colored drawings of birds. For the first three months of the comic, both panels were the same, but this has since changed. The first comic that had two different panels occurred on July 6, 2005. The ongoing joke is that all birds appearing in the comic have species names that are also slang terms for sexual organs. The four drawings are:
- Two tits clinging to a vertical branch, one above the other. This was the image in the first comic, and probably the source of the comic's name.
- Two blue-footed boobies standing next to each other.
- Three tufted titmice perching next to each other on a horizontal branch; two looking right and one looking left.
- One dickcissel, perching on a horizontal branch, its beak open in song.
- There has been one comic featuring the O RLY snowy owl. Whether or not there will be more comics with him is unknown.
Most IndieTits humor revolves around music, which tends to be commentary on little-known bands or individuals. There are non-related music jokes, that have no common theme. One joke that was used in several strips was the "obligatory" joke about the boobies' species name. There is normally an additional joke or some comment on the comic hidden in each comic's rollover text.
None of the birds in the comic have proper names. However, some seem to be distinct characters, as they have traits that carry over between comics. For example, the upper bird in the first drawing always speaks in uppercase letters and is generally obnoxious. The lower bird in that drawing is constantly exasperated with the upper one. The dickcissel is always angry about something, and has been referred to by most of the other birds as "Yelling Bird." Also, in strips featuring the blue-footed boobies, the booby on the right is portrayed as a male constantly unsuccessfully trying to attract the female boobie at his side. The female boobie is mentioned as deaf. The three titmice are always trying to form a band. Two of them are a bit delusional while the third acts a straightman (with exception the one strip when he wanted to be "the sexy bass player".)
After a one-month absence, IndieTits began updating again on August 29, 2005, now on weekdays (previously it updated daily). This absence has been explained in the comic's universe as the result of the birds being locked in prison in South America after a barely hinted-at incident involving Yelling Bird and some nuns.
