I Started a Joke

"I Started a Joke" is a 1968 song by the Bee Gees. The song is about someone who has done or said something horribly wrong, which results in alienating him from everyone around him. It's considered by many to be a great example of lyrical story-telling[citation needed]. Another prevalent interpretation, related to the previous one, is that it is the song is sung from the point of view of the Devil[citation needed]. In 1998 it was covered by Robbie Williams with The Orb (for a Bee Gees tribute album), and by Faith No More. The latter's version seems particularly tongue-in-cheek. In 2001, another cover by The Wallflowers was featured in the soundtrack to the film Zoolander starring Ben Stiller.
