Hurt is a alternative metal/post-grunge band from United States. They are signed to Capitol Records.

Lead singer J. Loren Wince grew up in the backwoods of Halifax, Virginia. He later relocated to Culpeper, Virginia. His parents exposed him to gospel and classical music and rock and roll was banned from the household. J. studied to be a classical violinist and began playing at an early age.

Evan Johns, the drummer of Hurt, is the son of acclaimed rock producer Andy Johns, who is most notable for his associations with Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and Van Halen. Evan was raised in the Los Angeles area and began playing drums at an early age.

When asked about the name of the band, Loren responds, "Have you heard the CD? Does it seem applicable? I felt that was definitely the word,” he continues. “It had to be called that.”

Vol. 1 is the title of the band's debut album.

Rapture, the album's first single, examines the twisted logic that Loren feels religious zeal can cause, leading to a negative outcome for the young couple portrayed. He allows that "Rapture" is about the “danger in setting yourself up as god,” . The song consists of ominous palm muted guitar and is joined by a harmonic section that explores multiple sections, adding a more complex structure than is found in much mainstream metal. Loren's vocals change throughout the song from a "matter-of-fact delivery", to growl, to a hushed near-whisper. Vol. 1's string arrangements may call to mind arena bands that incorporated classical influences.

According to Hurt, Vol. 2 is completed, but no release date has been announced.

According to the Vol. 1 booklet, the album will feature a song entitled "On The Radio".

The song, "House Of Cards" may also be on Vol. 2.

Traces of Tool, Nirvana, occasionally Disturbed and mid-period Metallica exist throughout the band's albums, but it is still an individual sound. It is mainstream enough to fit in on rock radio, yet unusual enough to appeal to the fringes.

They have been classified as a fusion of art rock, grunge, and progressive rock

Hurt have posted 7 previously unreleased tracks on their MySpace profile:

They allowed fans to download "Omission" and the Acoustic tracks, but for some reason did not allow "House Of Cards," "UBleed," "Danse Russe" (Raw), or "Better" to be downloaded. "House Of Cards" and "UBleed" may possibly be on Vol. 2.

Hurt have announced on their MySpace that they will release various acoustic versions of songs from "Vol. 1" as well as a song entitled "Assurance" No further info has been posted as to when they will release these songs or if they will let fans download them or not.

According to a MySpace bulletin they are going to possibly create a live album and allow fans to purchase it online.
