[edit] Busselton

Hi Hossen27! Welcome to Wikipedia, and congratulations on your recent work on the Busselton article. Can I make a suggestion though? It's probably better if you make fewer (but larger) edits, rather than lots of small ones, as this makes the edit history a bit easier to follow. The show preview button is really useful for this if you want to see how one edit looks before making another. Personally, I can't really talk, having just made 5 edits to the Busselton talk page in under two hours, but anyway... :) Keep up the good work! - Gobeirne 21:02, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Busselton map image

Hi, I improved the Busselton map image you uploaded (Image:Busselton dotmap.JPG) by various means. Now it's cleaner, smaller in filesize, losslessly compressed and nicely cropped (Image:Busselton map.png). I've listed the original for deletion – hope this is OK. –Mysid 11:01, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

I just noticed that you're making use of the Western Australian userbox I created. Good stuff! You might also be interested to know that you can show that you speak a little Indonesian by using a {{User id-1}} box, as shown on the right. For more information see Wikipedia:Babel.

[edit] Edit summaries

I saw you made a nice addition to Australian regional rivalries. Thanks. What would have been even more useful is if you made use of edit summaries:

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted; more importantly, edit summaries are useful for quickly seeing what and when things have changed.

So please always briefly summarize your edits. Thank you. jnothman talk 12:33, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Residential Developments Busselton

I reckon someone else might give you a hard time on this one as it approaches advertising, but that's not for me to say, but dont say I didnt warn ya!! Admittedly it does outline an issue, and where the line is drawn, well - I'll leave it to you and whoever else might tackle the issue..  :) vcxlor 11:52, 17 December 2005 (UTC) OK if you're ready for it, just have a read of wikipedia:advertising for a start. If you were to put commentary about the issues arising (ecocide for a start - the region cannot cope with that level of development) just wait for comment when all the millionaires in retirement when global warming swamps busso! howcome allanah hasnt said a word? - but then if you take a view from over at eagle bay then greed is the name of the region anyway  :) cheers vcxlor 06:25, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Australian Military Bases

I've moved the RAN list to the page Current Royal Australian Navy ships; this is similar to the list of Royal Navy shore establishments on the Current Royal Navy ships page. It can also allow the army and RAAF lists to be moved to their own pages also. However, if you wish to reinstate the RAN list to the original page, Wikipedia is free for everyone to modify, so I'd have no objection. Hammersfan 05:52, 18 December 2005 OK for reinstating the RAN bases to this page - however, over the last few days, I have been adding specific pages about RAN establishments, so you may want to modify the list slightly. [edit] Badges of the Royal Australian Navy

Hi Hossen27. I've been working through the backlog of images at Category:Uploader unsure of copyright status - any images added to this category should have their copyright status tagged within seven days, and all the images I deleted were there from the start of December or earlier. Regards, CLW 08:26, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm don't know enough about copyright law to confirm whether or not your interpretation is correct. Sorry! CLW 12:22, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
No need to worry - I've already been through the other images, and they already have tags confirming copyright status! Regards, CLW 12:48, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rod Rage?

The response in civil disturbance talk page should give you the pointer on this one - If you are amused by such stuff, try another article - civil disturbances are riots and collective behaviour. There have been many single crazy acts (which constitute criminal acts because there is definite breaking the law) which are difficult to source and track down - it'd be a great article~! Best Wishes SatuSuro 12:09, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, g'day from dem hills to the east - difficult, probably there are indexes in the liswa site, or the old card index if they havent thrown it out from Battye library - you'd probably need to do that, or track down an old policeman who could remember such things - also think of a whole range of possible cross references for stupid behaviour which was also verging on criminal behaviour. Prosh in the old days always verged on it, and some stunts were very very marginal. The old Daily News and sunday Times alway loved to pick up these sort of stories - I dont know how well indexed. Off the top of my head cant even think what sort of reasonable keyword to google on! Best of luck, otherwise get back and I'll do some checks of my own for ya!

[edit] 1 RAR

1 RAR is a light infantry battalion. According to the Book 'From Redcoats to Cams' by Ian Kuring, light infantry battalions currently consist of:

  • Battalion HQ
  • 4 Rifle Companies (A,B,C,D company)
  • Support Company
  • Administration Company

I don't know if 1 RAR is at full strength through, and I doubt that this is made public anywhere.

According to the Department of Defence's website, as part of the 'hardening and networking' initiative 1 RAR and 2 RAR will be re-organised into 3 rifle companies and support elements (the rifle companies will be larger than the current companies). I can't remember if they announced a date for this change though. --Nick Dowling 07:17, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Cardassian Dreadnought.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Cardassian Dreadnought.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Dethomas 04:56, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Military of Australia and Military history WikiProject

Hi Hossen27. I recently found out about your portal in the Wikipedia:Portal/Proposals discussion. I've been assisting on the Portal:United States Marine Corps (USMC) that was discussed along with your Military of Australia portal. From my work on the USMC portal, I found out about the Military history WikiProject, and have joined the project and the associated "United States military history task force". The WikiProject has a country task forces - including British, Canadian, Chinese, French, Polish ... We are noticably missing an Australian task force. It would be a natural fit for you and others who are associated with your portal.

From my experience, it is a very nice collaborative community. Though individuals may sign on to a particular task force, there is cooperation and collaboration of the larger group. (I've had the pleasure of assisting with British World War I articles.)

I invite you to visit and consider joining us. Here is a current task forces list.

ERcheck @ 02:55, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

  • OK ... I should have checked the list. I see you are a member of the WPMILHIST, so my remarks introducing the project are not needed. However, I don't know whether you are following the discussion on needed/suggested task forces. I really would like to see an Australian task force. Would you be interested in leading it? —ERcheck @ 02:59, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Welcome back! Thank you for your response. With your experience on the Portal and your interest in the topic, I personally think you would be a great fit. I'm not sure of what level of commitment it would take, but it would certainly be nice to know that Australia has its own task force. It would probably give you a larger community to draw from for help. For example, I am only a member of the US task force, but when the general request was put forward (on the WikiProject talk page) to convert the British WWI unit infoboxes to the new Military history boxes, I volunteered to help. (mentioned above). I look forward to hearing more from you. —ERcheck (talk) @ 12:03, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
      • Knee surgery... hope it goes well. As far as the Australian task force, you should coordinate with Kirill Lokshin (talk) (the Military history WikiProject lead coordinator). He'll help get things set up for the task force. Do you have a few people who will work you on the task force? —ERcheck (talk) @ 03:28, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
        • I would be very interested in joining an Australian military history task force. --Nick Dowling 12:34, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

This is great ... I'm very much looking forward to the establishment of the Australian task force. From time to time, I find myself running across articles Australian military articles — it will be great to have someone looking after them. —ERcheck (talk) @ 13:21, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Ouch! I hope the pain goes away quickly and your recovery is uneventful. You and Nick Dowling should make a great team to start the task force — both being valuable contributors to the area already. Though I have very little knowledge in the area, if there is something that you need help with, feel free to ask me. I'll do my best. —ERcheck (talk) @ 13:34, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Excellent! I've gone ahead and created the task force page for you here; all of the background red-tape stuff is either done or will be done momentarily. The most obvious thing do start with, in my opinion, would be to tag at least some of the more prominent articles in the area (as described on that page); hopefully that'll get some other people to join up. If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask me. Thanks! Kirill Lokshin 16:03, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Military history assessment department

Also could you tell me if anybody can help in the assessment department of the Military history WikiProject or is it a bit of a select group.

Yes, anyone can assess. (I double checked on this to be sure.) The Assessment Department page give information about assessments, as well as guidance on the different designations. (The designations are case-sensitive, i.e., Stub, not stub; and Start, not start.) —ERcheck (talk) @ 13:46, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Australian task force - congratulations

Congratulations on getting the task force off the ground. You already have a number of participants signed up in addition to you and Nick. (Hope you're feeling better.) —ERcheck (talk) @ 15:07, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Great work! 354 pages (and counting) under the Australian task force. (I've added a few in my spare time.) Hope recovery is progressing well. —ERcheck (talk) @ 02:32, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
  • I'm a little confused at the situation - my understanding (based on the page) is that the task force is dedicated to Australian military history. Project ADF still exists at this point (there was no vote regarding a merge) so do I understand correctly that Project ADF will be looking after current military information, and the task force which will be historical information? Obviously there will be some overlap in terms of shared articles, but there shouldn't be any overlap on content. As anybody has probably noticed I've only made contributions to current information, so under current arrangements I probably won't have much to do with the task force, though happy to help where I can. [edit] Australian War Memorial copyright

Hi Hossen, I think that you're asking for trouble by lifting slabs of text from the AWM website. My reading of the AWM copyright statement at: http://www.awm.gov.au/website/copyright.htm is that this material can only be published with the AWM's permission - I don't think that reproducing it on the internet counts as being "personal, non-commercial use" or "use within your organisation". I'd suggest that you paraphrase the AWM's material rather than reproducing it with only minor changes. --Nick Dowling 10:33, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] battleships

Hi there; I know that the articles I originally authored on a large number of Victorian era Royal Navy battleships belongb bto Wikipedia and not to me; that is not an issue. But I would be grateful if you could take time to explain why you have rated most of them as Stub-category? Looking at the stated parameters, I would have expected them to be Start-class. Why am I wrong, please?--Anthony.bradbury 17:48, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I wouldn't dream of changing the categories. I'm not arguing, just asking.--Anthony.bradbury 10:00, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Military equipment of Australia

No worries - I'm happy to be of assistance. --Nick Dowling 03:24, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I just finished adding an entry for every day of the month. I'm not sure whether the Leeuwin class survey vessel is an Australian designs or even if the design was modified for Australia - I've just assumed that it is. --Nick Dowling 12:17, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
