The town of Hopkins is located in Richland County, South Carolina. It is directly located eleven miles from the capitol city Columbia. Hopkins is 160 feet (49 meters) above sea level.

It's population as of the 2000 Census report was 26,050. The break down of the population was 9,108 Caucasians, 16,014 Blacks, and 682 Hispanics. There are 9,910 households. The average house value is $75,300.00, and the income per household is $40,095.00.

Hopkins is also home to one of South Carolina's many National Parks, Congaree National Park. Located in the heart of Hopkins on Bluff Road. The Congaree National Park has contiguously preserved the largest tract of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in the United States, and contains one of the tallest deciduous forests forests in the world. It has 27,000 acre of land and water. The National Park was made to be an international Biosphere a Globally Important Bird Area, and a Nation Natural Landmark. While in the park one can hike, backpack, camp, canoe, fish, birdwatch, and study nature.
