Hextable
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hextable is a village near the town of Swanley in the Sevenoaks District of Kent, England. It lies to the north of Swanley, between there and Dartford. The origin of the village name is unclear although a prominent theory suggests that it comes from "High Staple" (ie. high place). The village was originally an agricultural centre but, in recent years, has been greatly expanded as a dormitory village, providing a convenient commuting point for North West Kent and London.
An alternative theory of the Village's name concerns a prominent family. It is thought that the village gets its name from the stables of the Hax family, situated on College Road leading from the village and over time the local dialect corrupted 'hax's stable' to from the name.
The village has three churches:
- Anglican - St Peter's, part of the united benefice with St Paul, Swanley Village
- Methodist - part of the Kent Thameside Circuit (see website at http://beam.to/hextable-methodists)
- Pentecostal
Notably, there are no pubs within the village due to restrictions placed by former landowners in the area.
Hextable the new Parish A number of residents have applied for Hextable to become a new Parish. This has since been turned down due to lack of support.
Hextable School almalgamation Kent County Council are trying to push through the amalgamation of Hextable Infants and Junior Schools.
What is it really like Hextable is considered a small village and a quite place to live. For the most part it is but at time of writing a number of residents are politically active and we have a Residents association which also tries to make positive changes. This is a good thing and shows that the people of Hextable care about themselves and others. Overall it is a quiet place to live in with good Schools. Transport is bus or Car. However, all efforts to cut general apathy amounst the local youth are failing.
