Heiningen is a community in the Göppingen district, Baden-Württemberg, Germany in the foothills of the Swabian Alps.

The first documented mention of Heiningen stems from the year 1228, known at the time by the name Huningen. In 1321 the Duke of Teck sold Heiningen to Count Eberhard I of Württemberg, who put the town under the jurisdiction of Göppingen.

Since 1466 there has been a school in the town. During the Thirty Years' War in 1634 Heiningen was plundered and destroyed by the emperor's troops. Because of this and incidence of bubonic plague, the population of the town sank from perhaps 1000 to 200 persons.

Since World War II many "Heimatvertriebene" refugees moved to Heinginen. These refugees were ethnic Germans that lived in an area, such as Bohemia, that fell under new government after the war.

Since the Reformation, Heiningen has been mostly protestant. The immigration of Heimatvertriebene after the war did lead to a founding of a Roman Catholic Parish, which also serves nearby Eschenbach.
