- This man's name is pretty obviously Peterson instead of Pieterson. To prove that there is a Hector Peterson Memorial Library in Cape Town, South Africa and finaly you can read his name at the Hector Peterson Memorial. --212.114.164.185 06:31, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

- Hector's family insists that the correct spelling is Pieterson. The offical name of the first museum in Soweto is the Hector Pieterson Memorial Museum according to the telephone book. See Joburg council's site for Pitso or Petersen or Pieterson? --Jcw69 14:10, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

This is a South African article - so why are dates (June 16, 1976) in US format, rather than (16 June 1976) SA format? I didn't want to just go ahead and make the changes, but if there is agreement ...

I am a bit confused. This article states that,
"By the end of that fateful day 566 children were dead."
The article History of South Africa in the Apartheid Era, while refering to the exact same incident that,
"The official death toll on the day was 23 dead, but some placed it as high as 200."
Please clarify as to which is correct. It may be that I am reading one or the other incorrectly. If so, please clarify. Thank you.
