This page is part of a series on the statuses of birds in Britain. In ornithological matters, Britain is generally accepted as referring to the island of Great Britain and neighbouring islands, but not the island of Ireland and its neighbouring islands, due to both political and zoogeographical considerations. The series uses this definition, and hence it would be inconsistent to expand the scope of one article to cover a different geographic range. Alternatives could be to cover the material in an articles on Hawfinches in Ireland, or if it is felt that there is some merit in distinguishing north & south, then an article on Hawfinches in Northern Ireland might work. I think it would be better to think about the subject as a whole though - would a series for Ireland or one for Northern Ireland be better? Or would a joint series on Britain and Ireland be the way forward? If there are strong views on this, then lets move the discussion to the Category talk page SP-KP 18:02, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
