Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones

The Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones are one of Harvard University's oldest co-ed a cappella singing groups. Founded in 1985 by a group of Harvard College freshmen, including Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino, the Veritones recently celebrated their twentieth anniversary. The name "Veritones" references the Harvard University motto, "Veritas." Generally, there are between 12 and 16 active members in the group, all of whom are Harvard College undergraduates.
The Veritones regularly entertain illustrious Harvard faculty and administrators and represent a portion of the vibrant music scene at Harvard College.

[edit] Repertoire
In the early years, the Veritones performed mainly gospel and spirituals, but have since expanded their musical repertoire to include such contrasting styles as country, contemporary pop, jazz, folk, r&b, rock, and funk. Though little remains of the 1985 Veritones sound, the musical origins of the Veritones are preserved in their tongue-in-cheek alumni song, "Ride the Harley," which is a spoof on the Early American spiritual "Ride the Chariot." All of the group's music is arranged by its members and alumni, some of whom even compose their own original tunes.

[edit] Performances
The Veritones perform extensively in the Boston area. Twice annually, they perform at Sanders Theater on the Harvard campus. In addition to these home concerts, the Veritones appear at many Harvard campus events (including the annual Arts First festival) as well as at local holiday parties, regional a cappella concerts, sports games, and weddings.
Additionally, the Veritones travel at least three times per year. In December, they head to New York City to perform at the Empire State Building, as well as at malls, office buildings, and holiday parties. Each January, they perform at a Vermont ski resort and lodge. Finally, every June, the Veritones embark on a summer tour, which has in the past taken them to such far-flung locations as Europe, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, and the Deep South.
