Hankyoreh Shinmun

Hankyoreh Shinmun (hangul:한겨레신문) is a daily newspaper in South Korea.
The Hankyoreh Shinmun claims to be "independent from the powers that be and the government". The newspaper is considered to be one of the most leftist newspapers in Korea as opposed to right-wing newspapers such as Chosun Ilbo and Dong-a Ilbo.
Hankyoreh was established as a left-wing alternative in a medium traditionally dominated by conservative and center-right newspapers. It was founded by fired journalists on 15 May 1988 by offering shares for public subscription to 7223 people.
The newspaper is heavily criticized for its duplicity, in which it focuses all its energies on criticizing the mainstream media and researching the past of purportedly pro-Japanese figures of the conservative side while being fully supportive of the oft-criticized North Korean regime.
