Haldun Ülkenli

M. Haldun Ülkenli (1970) is a Turkish outdoor sportsman and mountaineer, who summited Mt. Everest in 2006 in a team expedition.
He was born on January 22, 1970 in Munich, Germany to Turkish parents. After finishing rhe high school, Haldun attended the Middle East Technical University in Ankara to study Mechanical Engineering, left however without graduation.
In 2003, a team of three Turkish mountaineers attempted to climb Mount Alarcha in Kyrgyzstan. On the way back to camp due to bad weather conditions, he lost his teammate Uğur Uluocak, who fell downwards as a rock broke off.
Haldun successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 15, 2006 along with three other members of a Turkish expedition team of eleven climbers, sponsored by Petrol Ofisi. His teammates on the top were Eylem Elif Maviş, the first Turkish female Everest summiter, Serkan Girgin and Soner Büyükatalay.
Haldun Ülkenli is also a trainer in Nordic skiing, member of an amateur search and rescue team, cave diver and coastal environmentalist.
