Greentreprenuers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Greentreprenuer is a term used to describe the profusion of people who are passionate and conscientious business people, who are using their work to create a more healthy, more just world, and who care about more than just the bottom line. They are interested in the Triple Bottom Line --- People, Planet and Profits. In that order. All sources agree the group includes people born since the early 1900s. The term is apolitical and is used in demography, the social sciences, and marketing, though it is most often used in popular culture.
[edit] HISTORY OF TERM
The term Greentreprenuer was coined by “Captain” Michael Cardinal in 2005 while attending the Social Ventures Network in Tuscan Arizona, during a discussion where several members expressed frustration with the word “Cultural Creative” which no one could seem to define and annoyed people for being grammatically incorrect.
The gathering of business owners were hoping to find a term to describe the type of people who went home at the end of the week with more than a paycheck, and who actually owned businesses that benefited themselves, the community, its customers, clients and staff, and the planet. Or at the very least, didn’t harm any person, animal, the environment or any thing.
As a result, the term stretched to include more people, being appropriated by the Green Movement and has begun to be used by marketers to denote potential buyers who are interested in green, earth-friendly, socially conscious businesses, products and services.
