I actually like the idea of this article. However, it seems to be all over the place and not really placed into full context. Is this really a common plot device in movies? If so more movies should be cited even if they are long forgotten B rated movies. It should be linked to similar articles and linked to more catagories.

Also whats up with the Citizen Kane link?

It is a joke but a fun one. People always wondered what was in that warehouse where they stored the ark. True to conspiracies, some of the items are real while others are not. As for duplicates . . . who is to say who has the actual item or a copy, then again no one would really have the contents list(s) of the warehouses anyway. When, exactly, was it ever alleged that Captain America's shield or Amaterasu's sword were hidden away by the government in a secret warehouse? Where was it ever depicted that the US government obtained samples from the Fountain of Youth? The following definitely do not belong here:

• Water vial (Fiction – labeled "Fountain of Youth") — There is no evidence that it was ever depicted to be in a Government Warehouse.
• The Blob (Fiction – film The Blob) — This was dumped in Antartica in the movie, not in a Government Warehouse.

• HAL 9000 prototype (Fiction – film 2001: A Space Odyssey) — Neither the films nor the books imply that HAL 9000 or its prototypes were suppressed.
• Gary Gygax's confiscated personal effects — No sources were supplied to indicate that anyone even claimed that such a confiscation was made.
• Captain America's Shield (Fiction – comic book "Captain America") — as per Gtrmp above
• Goddess Amaterasu's sword (given to the first Emperor) (Mythology) — as per Gtrmp above
• Shroud of Turin (Biblical Artifact that is very controversial) — Some suppressed secret! Shroud of Turin tells one exactly where it is.
• Live Dodo bird (Extinct animal) — No sources were supplied to indicate that anyone even claimed that there's a live one somewhere.
• Marie Celeste's ship logbook (Historic – The crew mysteriously vanished on November 7, 1872) — The logbook is the one paper that wasn't missing from the ship.
• The Amber Room (Real – dismantled by Soviet army in Berlin at the end of WWII) — According to Amber Room, there are lots of stories about this. None of them involve the room surviving. They simply dispute where and when it was finally destroyed.
• Hitler's diary (Real/Fiction – many hoaxes, are any of them real?) — The entry says it itself. No-one has claimed that real diaries have been suppressed or lost. Rather they have all claimed to have found the diaries.
• Elvis Presley — The assertion is that Elvis is alive, not that he is in a Government Warehouse.
• Steve Jackson Games Files (Real Event – office (Steve Jackson Games) raided March 1, 1990 by Secret Service) — A real event, with real property confiscated, real property returned, a real court case, and real damages. No Government Warehouses involved.

• The Stargate (Fiction – film/TV Stargate) — In the television series plot this is actually stored beneath Cheyenne Mountain, not in a Government Warehouse.

Actually, the stargate was indeed stored in a government warehouse, from ~1945 to ~1980.

[edit] Excising the list of contents entirely

I've entirely excised the list of contents. I did this for several reasons:

• Death666 saying above that "no one would really have the contents list(s) of the warehouses anyway." If no-one really has a contents list, then this entire list is unverifiable.
• Both the original sources for this list and Death666 above admit that the list was made up from whole cloth just for the fun of it.
• Leaving in even a partial list would encourage the addition of more "fun" entries.
• None of the "conspiracy" entries cited sources, saying who asserts the conspiracy theory concerned.
• All of the conspiracy theories are duplicated at the lists of conspiracy theories linked to from conspiracy theory, and many have only tenuous connections to Government Warehouses, if that.

The list should be reincluded. These are used as plot devices in fiction and games. They are part of conspiracy theories. As to your points,

• The If no-one really has a contents list, then this entire list is unverifiable stance is not relevant. God is said to be unverifiable, should wikipedia not have a article on God?
• A partial list should be reincludedd in the leats, and editor should be encouraged for the addition of more entries, if they are citable (make a note on this).
• Fictional elements can be listed if they are marked as such and elements that are relvant to games should be listed. This list isn't from "whole cloth", it a compliation of idea and items from fiction and real life. The intermingling of fictional ideas and real events should be reworked though (eg., seperated).
• Just because "conspiracy" entries did not cite sources, saying who asserts the conspiracy theory concerned, that does not mean that they are uncitable ... and these could be (and should be) cited @ a later time.
• The conspiracy theory elements should be listed seperatly from the hydraheaded and unmanageable list there, not merged into that. These fictional plot devices and game ideas (along with real events / articles) should be listed seperately. IMO, the fiction and real events could be seperated out further here.

I I thought that the list could be put into a seperate article to avoid a edit war here. But that list was promptly put up for VfD. If it is deleted, I will add citable and verifable portion back here. Mabey under a header of Warehouse contents, moving some of the existing text into it (Ark, etc) and incorporating other items. The presentation of the article now is ok, but the removal of the list, IMO, has destroyed the usefulness of this article. JDR 10:51, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

• I have seen very long version of the list years (and more than two hard disks) ago. The original was created by GURPS players for the fun of it. You can find more things in the GURPS supplement Warehouse 53 and the Pyramid magazine of the Steve Jackson Games at least used to include more items. Even back then the list included everything from legendary melee weapons to ancient artifacts to multiple heads of Hitler in jars to things like Kosh's environment suit.

Currently there are several versions of the list floating in the Net. Following the list's original logic, this would become the longest list there is, because potentially it would include, among lots of other things:

• every single legendary object or even rumored historical artifact (multiple version of holy grail, for example)
• every real historical artifact (all of those in display in some museum being copies and forgeries)
• every "true" version of a famous forgery (public known forgeries being "fronts")
• every item every historical person is even rumored to have had (like cigars of Churchill)
• every prominent item connected to every fictional character there is
• every disappeared historical person in stasis cube or something similar
• every fictional animal there is, stuffed by a taxidermist or in a cage
• one or more "correct" and "uncensored" copies of every book there is (those in public being expurgated)
• every fictional book mentioned somewhere (multiple versions of the Necronomicon, not to mention all the other Cthulhu-related tomes)
• every book that has not been written (and therefore "suppressed")
• every magic item of every fantasy story and lots of "mundane" items as well
• every science fiction artifact, including things like the Ringworld
• every movie prop and MacGuffin
• and references to secret documents that refer to every historical and fictional event there is

If somebody wants to keep, not to mention maintain the list, they better found their own project like Wikigovernmentwarehouse - Skysmith 23:26, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Article name

Great job on the rewrite UncleG! My only real concern now is the article's name: "Government Warehouse" isn't a proper noun, so it should be renamed. "Government warehouse" is generic enough to refer to other matters. I suggest secret government warehouse. -Sean Curtin 01:21, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

Uncle G's edits have destroyed the usefulness of the article to find related subjects. A list should be reincluded. It's a decent presentation, but the total content of the article ls now lacking. JDR 10:26, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Having been "directed" by User:Uncle G, to join in on this, my view continues to be that the list itself is not suitable for ~Paedia, for several reasons. Firstly, it is available elsewhere and can be linked to from this article. Secondly, there are multiple "versions" of the list, from varied sources, which are inconsistent with each othe, and in some cases internally inconsistent. Thirdly, one or all of these are probably potential copyvios (apologies if my Wiki-vocabulary is imperfect), and very likely represent "original research" in its Wiki-sense. That said, I have no problem with the article-without-the-list existing -- indeed, to quote User:Blackcats on 26 May 2005, "It's a concept that exists in a lot of literature, media, etc. Therefore it's notable. Perhaps retitle (by adding something in parentheses) so as to make sure the concept discussed in this article doesn't get confused with actual warehouses and storage facilities known to be owned and maintained by governments".
