Geran

Geran is the name of several characters who feature in the David Eddings' fantasy books set in the Belgariad universe. All Gerans mentioned have been or are members of the Rivan royal family. The list of known Gerans is as follows:
- The grandson of Gorek the wise in Belgarath the Sorcerer, whose main role is as the sole survivor of the assassination of the Rivan royal family that apparently ended the monarchy and started the exile period which lasted until Garion came to the throne. His name was originally Gared in the Belgariad. It is known from the prologue to Magician's gambit that he had at least one uncle and aunt, and had siblings and cousins. Judging from information given in Polgara the Sorceress, he was the son of Gorek's eldest son, and had a brother, who was the eldest. After being saved when six years old and concealed by Belgarath and Polgara, Geran lived for ten years in his aunt's old house where she lived when she was Duchess of Erat. He then lived in Muros, where he married the daughter of a local Algar clan chief named Hettan.
- The great-grandson of the first Geran. All that is known about this Geran is that he grew up in the Sendarian town of Darine until at the age of nine, when pestilence struck and claimed his whole family, save his Aunt Pol. they fled to Polgara's rose concealed house, where Geran stayed for several years and Polgara trained him as a physician. After this, she took him to Medalia. He got married in his mid-thirties and had one son and four daughters. Polgara noted that although he was never a good physician, it helped conditioned the Rivan line to think of themselves as ordinary.
- A horse herder from Algaria. He had a son called Darel in 4081.
- Garion's Great-great grandfather. Little is known about him except that he lived in the Cherek village of Emgaard, had a son called Darion, and had outlived his wife.
- Garion's father.
