Template talk:Generate POTD T

The intention of this template is to assist in generating text version Picture of the Day entries in the Picture of the Day monthly archive.
To use it open the Picture of the Day monthly archive choose the future date of a POTD entry that doesn't exist yet. Follow the edit link for the text version of that day's POTD to create an appropriately named blank page. Then populate the page using
- {{subst:Generate POTD T|Image:Imagename.jpg|Image description|UserCredit|Short image title|Long caption|type=...|size=...}}
Parameter list:
- Image filename
- Image description (used for the image's alternate text)
- Image credit
- Short image title (not used on this version of POTD, but allows cut-n-paste when filling out the other generate POTD templates)
- Long caption
Optional parameters:
- type: The image type. Defaults to "Photo".
- size: The image size. Defaults to 300px.
Note the use of template substitution. You can then use almost same string to populate the condensed POTD page.Changing the start to

In practice, you may want to further edit the page generated. In particular, its a little unwieldy to include the long caption this way, so that can be left until later.
As a concrete example; here is the string for generating the Picture of the day on March 20, 2005

You can also use the template {{NotifyPOTD}} when dropping a courtesy notification of an upcoming POTD on the talk page of a user involved in creating the picture. For a reused POTD {{NotifyPOTD2}} can be used instead. They both take three parameters: the imagename, the date of the POTD and the pagename of the primary PicOfTheDay page.
