Gay-for-pay

Gay-for-pay is the slang term accorded to male (and sometimes, but less frequently, female) pornographic actors or prostitutes who identify as heterosexual but perform homosexual acts professionally.

Some people object to the term because many people define sexual orientation by which gender one is attracted to regardless of which gender one has sex with. Others object to the term because it promotes a self-hating attitude that straight men are more desirable or that being straight is better than being gay. Gay for pay doesn't take bisexuality into account.

Moreover, the performers are having sex for pay, whether it is with a person of the gender the performer is normally attracted to or not. All the sex is for pay, and the partners are usually not chosen by the performer and are not necessarily someone the performer is attracted to irrespective of their gender.

Critics, however, will say that the performer chooses to have sexual relations with a person of the same sex. They are not being forced into having sexual intercourse and choose so willingly and have the right to say no to any partner that they do not want. One might say that these performers are attracted on some level to the same sex to actually go through with the act. The pay factor is just a cover to justify experimenting in same sex sexual intercourse. Many times, a performer will exaggerate the pay they received in order to make it seem more lucrative to friends and family. The pay factor can act as an excuse for their behavior similar to males who get intoxicated and have sex with males and then in the morning use the intoxication as an excuse to why they had homosexual sex.

Some people believe in the widespread phenomenon of gay for pay could be connected to the proliferation of gay pornographic videos with a story that features an ostensibly heterosexual male being seduced into a gay male sexual act.

A popular example of this phenomenon is the "Latino Fan Club", a film production company which specializes in producing amateur gay pornographic films in which pornographic actors who are billed as "Straight Latino Street Thugs" appear to reluctantly have sex with one another (but are almost certainly actually bisexual or gay). The video production company website also offers contact information for hiring these "straight" models as prostitutes.

People involved in the gay pornographic industry consider that some gay pornographic actors who identify as straight are not truly heterosexual. Because some gay men consider heterosexual men to be objects of fantasy, some gay porn producers have almost certainly described some actors as heterosexual to increase sales and publicity for their product. Moreover, many gay or bisexual men who star in gay porn films may wish to be identified publicly as heterosexual for personal or professional reasons.
