Gates and Sons Bar-B-Q

Gates and Sons Bar-B-Q is one of two Kansas City, Missouri, restaurants that traces its roots back to Henry Perry the founder of the Kansas City barbecue.
Gates started in 1946 in the same 18th Street and Vine neighborhood that saw the rise of the famous Henry Perry restaurant, Arthur Bryant's (the other restaurant with links to Perry) as well as Kansas City Jazz.
It was founded by George and Arzelia Gates, their three children, Winnifred, Gwendolyn and Ollie, the cook, Arthur Pinkard. Pinkard had been a cook for Perry.
Gates' sauce has more molasses and is thus sweeter than Perry's or Bryant's sauces.
In terms of branches it is bigger than Bryant's as it has six restaurants scattered throughout Kansas City which are marked by their red roofs and sauce bottles with the "man in full tuxedo top hat" logo. Customers are greeted almost as soon as they walk in the door with the question, "Hi, may I help you?"
The restaurant says its staff is trained at Gates College of Bar-B-Que Knowledge, better known as Rib Tech.
