Westfield Woden (until recently known as Woden Plaza) is located in the Woden Town Centre in the suburbs of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. Initially constructed in stages during the 1970s, it underwent a major redevelopment in the late 1990s, adding on a new wing to the building called "The Market" as well as a new Hoyts 8-screen cinema complex, and refurbishment of older sections.

The Westfield Group purchased a 50% stake in the complex during 2005, with the remaining 50% still belonging to General Property Trust. Prior to Westfield taking over, the complex was managed by Lend Lease on behalf of General Property trust, and branded as Woden Plaza.

[edit] Westfield Hornsby

Westfield Hornsby is located in Hornsby, New South Wales. It is the oldest mall in the Westfield chain, although the first location was at Blacktown.

Construction and History The original shopping centre was opened in 1961. It received its first upgrade in 1968, followed by a further upgrade in 1976.

The latest upgrade started in 1999 with the closure and subsequent demolition of the existing Westfield centre and closure of part of the existing Northgate centre. On January 22, 2000, Westfield temporarily shut the centre to pave the way for a two-year AUD 360 million redevelopment project which doubled retail space and brought more major retailers on board, including restaurants and cinemas.

The four-stage revedelopment saw Westfield take over and incorporate the adjacent Northgate shopping centre (known for a while as Westfield Northgate) into the new centre.

  • Stage 1, the redevelopment of the Westfield Northgate side, opened on October 26, 2000. The Northgate name was dropped and it became known as part of Westfield Hornsby. The initial stage included construction of 50 specialty shops and a Coles supermarket.
  • Stage 2 opened on May 31, 2001. This was the old Westfield Hornsby side, and was physically separate from the Stage 1 deveopment until August, when the Level 1 underground walkway opened. Stage 2 included a Woolworths supermarket, more than 40 specialty shops, and two levels of parking.
  • Stage 3 was completed on September 13, 2001, with the opening of David Jones, Target, Gowings, a Food Court, and 100 specialty stores. At this stage, the centre has increased from 48,000 m² to 98,000 m².
  • The Grand Opening of the new centre was held on September 26, 2001.
  • Stage 4 opened in November and included a nine-screen cinema complex and alfresco restaurant precinct.

Also known as Miranda Fair, Westfield Miranda is located in the suburb of Miranda in the Sutherland Shire,Sydney.

The street address is 600 The Kingsway, Miranda. Adjacent streets include Kiora Road, Wandella Road, Jackson Avenue and Urunga Parade.

History

Miranda Fair was originally opened in 1964 and was purchased by the Westfield Group in 1969. There have been two major renovations and extensions since then, once in 1971 and again in 1994 giving it 107,000 m2 of retail space. In both instances it was the largest shopping centre in Australia at the time the extensions were completed. For several years it was widely known as the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere.[citation needed] Since these openings, other shopping centres have been built and expanded. As of 2006 it is the 8th largest shopping centre in Australia and the 2nd largest in Sydney.

Access

There are several large car parking areas around the complex. Rail access is provided by Miranda railway station on the Illawarra railway line immediately adjacent, making it easily accessible from southern and eastern suburbs of Sydney.
