The Autonomous Community of Galicia (also Galiza in Galician) has been part of Spain since the Middle Ages and historically has a close relationship with Portugal. It includes most of the Atlantic coast of Spain. Galicia is divided into four provinces: A Coruña, Ourense, Pontevedra, and Lugo.

The language of Galicia is Galician, which is spoken by a majority of the population; Castillian is also co-official. The population of Galicia is 2,762,198 . The capital city is Santiago de Compostela; the most populous cities are Vigo and A Coruña.
