[edit] Biography
Coming from a household where he had seven brothers, Trigg developed a natural competitive nature. He attended Eastridge High school in Rochester, NY. From there, he attended the University of Oklahoma, and graduated in 1997 in Public Affairs and Administration. He also wrestled while he attended the University of Oklahoma, and stayed on as a coach from 1997 until 2000. While at Oklahoma, Trigg became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity (Xi Delta Chapter).
[edit] Mixed martial arts career
Trigg got his start in 1997, fighting in a handful of upstart promotions, and in 1999 got his big break and fought in PRIDE at PRIDE 8, defeating Fabiano Iha via TKO due to strikes. He challenged Shooto champion Hayato Sakurai for his title in December of 2000. While Trigg initially controlled the bout, Sakurai would stage a comeback and score a KO via knees in the second round, handing Trigg his first MMA loss. He fought in the World Fighting Alliance from 2001-2002, where he held the WFA Welterweight Title. He then went on to fight in the UFC, making a run at the Welterweight championship, but came up short, losing to Matt Hughes twice in two separate title fights, both via rear naked choke. His last fight in the UFC was another loss via rear naked choke, to top welterweight contender Georges St. Pierre. He then went on to participate in Rumble on the Rock's welterweight (175 lb) tournament in 2006, where he won his first round fight against Ronald "Machine Gun" Jhun, but was upset in the second round by Carlos Condit. Trigg has been inactive since that loss, focusing on his broadcasting job with PRIDE. On December 1, 2006 Trigg will face Jason "Mayhem" Miller for the Icon Sport middleweight title.
Trigg is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
[edit] Personal Life
Trigg is engaged and has two children, Frankie and Kiara. He is partners in a gym called R1 Training Center with Rico Chiapparelli, has his own Triggonomics urban athletic wear and runs a marketing company in addition to his duties as PRIDE's color commentator alongside Mauro Ranallo.
