Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings (ファイナルファンタジーXII レヴァナント・ウィング Fainaru Fantajī Towerubu Revananto Wingu?) is a video game for the Nintendo DS, and a spinoff of the role-playing game Final Fantasy XII. The game features Final Fantasy XII characters Vaan, now an 18-year-old air pirate with his own airship, and Penelo, Vaan's 17-year-old navigator. Their treasure-hunting adventures take them to the floating continent of Puruvama and the ground below, where their story begins. Balthier and Fran are also playable, and Revenant Wings may have more playable characters than Final Fantasy XII had. [1]
The game will be directed and plotted by Motomu Toriyama, who also directed Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XIII. [2] According to Toriyama, the game is aimed at Nintendo DS owners who are not experienced with Final Fantasy games, and will remove "overly complicated elements from the battle system...that will allow (the player) to defeat the enemies with minimal controls." [3] Like with Final Fantasy X-2, the airship will be available to the player as soon as the game starts.
Details on the battle system have not been released; however, it can be played entirely with the stylus and will share elements with that of Final Fantasy XII, including a simplified version of the Gambit system. Espers will return in Revenant Wings and will have a larger role than in Final Fantasy XII; Toriyama has said Revenant Wings will have more summons than any previous Final Fantasy game. [1]
The game will feature character designs by Ryuma Itou, who did the designs for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
