Farhan Akhtar

Farhan Akhtar Hindi: फ़र्हन अख्तर, Urdu: فرہن اَکھتر),(born January 9, 1974), is an emerging contemporary Indian film director. He is the son of very well known scripwriter, poet and lyricist, Javed Akhtar and renowned screenplay writer, Honey Irani. He is also the grandson of Urdu poet, Jan Nisar Akhtar.
He made his directorial debut in Hindi cinema with the 2001 blockbuster hit, Dil Chahta Hai, which starred Aamir Khan. He then moved onto his next project, Lakshya (film) with Hrithik Roshan, which was released in 2004. Though the movie did not do as well at the box office, it won him a lot of critical acclaim.
He has recently completed working on Don - The Chase Begins Again, the remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan film, Don. This remake stars Shahrukh Khan in the title role. The film has released on 20 October 2006 and seen a great opening in all the major cinema halls across the world. His sister, Zoya Akhtar, is also turning director with a film that is currently under production.

- Always referred to as a metrosexual guy.
- Farhan Akhtar said that when he left college, he spent about two years at home and did nothing productive. During those two years, he watched about two films daily. Akhtar said that it was this period of his life which allowed him to connect with the character of Karan Shergill, the protagonist of Lakshya which film Akhtar directed, begins with Karan as a young, unemployed slacker who stays at home, sleeps late, and has no ambition or aim in life.
